Public transport is available from the village, where there are shops, churches, public houses, restaurants and a school, as well as a thriving community hub at the Wylam Institute, which venue for various clubs, groups and activities. There is easy access to major road links including the A69 and A695, with Newcastle city centre within 12 miles and Hexham approximately 14 miles away, and the railway station in Wylam, just across the bridge over the Tyne, gives access to train travel along the Carlisle/Newcastle line.
