Description

Hoffman Square stands on a site steeped in more than 300 years of history. Originally Aske’s Hospital, founded in 1691, the building was funded by silk merchant Robert Aske and designed by Robert Hooke, the visionary architect and scientist. Elsewhere in London, Hooke contributed to the designs of St Paul’s Cathedral and The Monument.

Built as almshouses for the Haberdashers’ Company, the original building featured a grand façade, a central chapel, and landscaped gardens. Over the centuries, the building served as a hospital, schools, a technical institute, and later the renowned London College of Furniture, where generations of cabinet makers, upholsterers, and instrument makers trained.

In the early 2000s, the building was sensitively restored and converted into what is now Hoffman Square. The project was celebrated with the Britannia Design Award in 2002 for Best Restoration and Conversion, recognising the care taken to preserve its architectural heritage.

This bright two-bedroom apartment is located on the ground floor and benefits from the building’s industrial past, with high ceilings and large factory-style windows bringing in an abundance of natural light.

The open-plan living space is thoughtfully arranged, with a functional kitchen at one end, complete with stainless steel worktops, open shelving, and minimalist cabinetry. A generous dining area and reception space sit beyond, offering flexibility for entertaining or relaxing. Both bedrooms are well-proportioned doubles, there is a family bathroom and excellent storage throughout.

Positioned on the peaceful Chart Street, just moments from the creative buzz of Hoxton and Shoreditch, the apartment sits in a sweet spot for both culture and calm.

Just around the corner, 'Friends of Ours' serves fresh sourdough, great coffee, and laid-back brunches. For more elevated dining, Michelin-starred The Clove Club offers innovative British tasting menus in the grand setting of Shoreditch Town Hall, while nearby Lyle’s delivers a refined, seasonal menu in minimalist surroundings. Also close by on Pitfield Street is the Curzon Cinema.

Old Street Station is a short walk away, connecting you to the City, the West End and beyond via the Northern Line.
