Description
Bridge House is an impressive and very comfortable Victorian semi-detached house originally built for the station manager when the railway came to Blandford in the mid 18th century. In a quiet and very convenient location, the house had already been comprehensively refurbished when our clients acquired it in 2021, and they have continued to maintain the house immaculately well and have stylishly presented it to create a fantastic family home. The flexible and well organised accommodation extends to nearly 3,000 sq/ft and is arranged over three floors. The original Victorian porch opens into a hall off which there are two generous sitting rooms, both of which have open fireplaces and overlook the garden, and on the other side two more reception rooms have been merged to create a fabulous kitchen/dining room off which there is a utility room and an everyday entrance hall coming in from the drive. A cloakroom, useable cellar and useful workshop/store complete the ground floor and upstairs there are five double bedrooms and three bath/shower rooms (one ensuite). The whole house is simply but very stylishly presented and has the huge advantage of a large sunny garden, plenty of parking and all of this within a stone’s throw of the town centre and all the local schools.
A large sunny garden and plenty of private parking this close to the middle of town are a huge advantage for Bridge House. Well kept and cleverly laid out the formal garden is behind the house facing west and enjoying all of the afternoon sun. A large terrace leads up to a lawn with interesting borders and a productive kitchen garden at the far end. The terrace paving continues around the side of the house, passed a raised bed and the original front door, to another terrace which is off the kitchen and good for the morning sun. Beyond that there is a wide gravel drive that has space for three or four cars.
Blandford Forum is a busy market town renowned for its Georgian architecture and described by the Guardian in 2013 as “a little Bath in brick”. Bridge House is situated on the site of the old station, close to the Dorset Trailway and only a stone’s throw from the centre of town. All the local amenities are close at hand including the market square shops and restaurants, Marks & Spencer Food Hall, Tesco and Lidl super stores. A brisk walk or cycle ride will take you out of town into the lovely surrounding countryside, much of which is designated as a National Landscape (old AONB). Although Blandford is a rural market town, it is only a short drive south to the Bournemouth/Poole/ Ferndown conurbation, making it an ideal base for people who work in that area, and easy access onto the A31 provides a quick link to the M27 for Southampton and Portsmouth and on to the M3 up to London. The most convenient station would be in Poole or Salisbury, both offering regular trains to London Waterloo in circa 2 hours. There are many good opportunities for sport and recreation with lovely walking, cycling and riding in the countryside around town, numerous golf courses and plenty of other sports clubs and venues. And in not much more than half an hour you can be enjoying water sports and sailing in Poole Harbour and Studland Bay or walking in the Wareham Forest or along Dorset’s renowned Jurassic Coastline. This part of Dorset has also become sought after because of the number of popular independent schools. Bryanston is on the doorstep, Milton Abbey, Canford, Clayesmore along with Hanford, Sandroyd, Castle Court and Dumpton prep schools are all nearby.
