Location
Montady is a charming little village in Béziers' hinterland that suddenly pops up above the vineyards. Literally, as it is located on a small hill- the only one in the vicinity. From here, you will have a great view over the so-called Étang de Montady. This used to be a 400 ha natural basin until the 13th century when the four pond owners decided to create a draining system. A central device led the water through an ingenious network of 60 ditches. By draining the water, the pond of Montady dried up, creating a unique landscape of 80 wedge-shaped plots. The Canal du Midi is also close, so is the fortified settlement 'Oppidum d'Ensérune', dating from the 6th century BC and now housing a museum. Excellent dining can be done at La Tour de Montady.
