Crostwight Hall was originally built in the mid 1500s by the local Le Gros family, who sold the whole Crostwight Estate in 1720 to Sir Robert Walpole. Walpole's eldest son, Robert, 1st Baron Walpole, lived there with his wife Margaret (Rolle) from 1724 until the marriage foundered in 1734. Thereafter Crostwight Hall became a let farm, the Hall itself falling into ruin during the latter part of the 18th Century. It was sold by Lord Cholmondely in 1809 to a local landowner, the Crostwight Estate ultimately being merged into the next door Honing Estate in 1918. The derelict 17th-19th Century farm buildings were restored as dwellings between 1985 and 1995.
