Description

Located in Hawley Square, one of Margate's most coveted spots and only a short walk from the Old Town and seafront, this drop-dead gorgeous two-bedroom home is part of a converted church dating back to the 1800s.

Brickworks Says - The current owner is a leading interior designer, and her magic touch is evident wherever you look. From the painted arches above the doorways that echo the tiles in the bathroom and kitchen to the handcrafted D-Tile worktop that creates an ever-so-pleasing basin and shelf, every element has been realised with skill and care.

What isn't as immediately obvious are the sustainable choices: the furniture has been sourced from local vintage stores, and the materials are kind to the environment. These include lime-based paint by Bauwerk, which leaves a wonderful surface patina, and cork flooring, which is warm underfoot and a naturally replenishing product. The continuous thread linking all these elements is respect for the building, the local economy, and the environment.

Set on the ground floor, the flat has two comfortable doubles, a beautiful bathroom, and a large, open-plan living room and kitchen. The latter is cleverly configured with the cooking area at one end and seating/storage that runs the length of one wall, linking the zones. Pretty French doors provide access to a side street, which means you can open things up, allowing light and air to flow into the space. From crisp wintery nights to warm sunny days, it is made for entertaining.

Hawley Square has long been a favourite spot in Margate. Its pull dates all the way back to the 1800s, when the square was built. Lined with Georgian houses that surround the picturesque square, its visual attraction is obvious, but its enduring appeal is also based on its proximity to the Old Town and seafront. Moments on foot from both, it is also within touching distance of Dane Park and the Turner Contemporary. The Theatre Royal is also at the end of the street. Currently having a complete refurb, it will be a new cultural highlight in a town simply bursting with them.

The Owners Say - I couldn't love this apartment and area more. I have spent five very happy years here, and if it wasn't for my partner and I moving in together, I would be staying here!

I moved to Margate from London without knowing hardly anyone. I was immediately welcomed by the lovely neighbours and enamoured by the local area. It is so peaceful yet right on the edge of all the bustling activity of the old town and just a few minutes walk from the beach.

It is a great apartment for socialising but also for downtime. Having people stay for the weekend, friends often comment it is the best night's sleep they have had when staying over! It is really spacious with super high ceilings and in a really quiet and private spot.

The local area just gets better and better––there are so many brilliant cafés, bars, restaurants, art galleries and shops just a stone's throw away. I have been extremely happy here, and I am sure the next owners will be too.
