Located at the junction of St John Street and Sekforde Street, the development is conveniently positioned for access to Farringdon Station with Elizabeth, Hammersmith and City, Metropolitan and Circle Lines and Mainline Thameslink Services to Gatwick and Luton Airports.
The local Waitrose is a 3 minute walk away and the area is filled with artisanal coffee shops, bakeries, and restaurants. A particular highlight is The Sekforde - a historic pub famous for its award-winning Sunday lunch. Leather Lane food market is a stroll away as is Exmouth Market - a hidden gem showcasing an array of independent shops, restaurants and amenities. It is easy to see why Clerkenwell was named the best place to live in London in 2024 by The Sunday Times.
The area also has a fascinating history. Sekforde Street takes its name from an Elizabethan man of law, Thomas Sekford (1517 - 1587) who bequeathed a part of his Clerkenwell estate. He was a lawyer and MP under the reign of Queen Elizabeth I. The estate as we know it began its redevelopment in the late 1820s with the layout of the street designed by C.R. Cokerall (surveyor) and his assistant James Noble. Earlier occupants were mostly working traders and the site housed a wallpaper factory, a mahogany warehouse, livery, stables, a builder’s workshop and a parochial school.
Sekforde Street was one of the most important of the streets laid out on the Sekforde Estate and is currently the best preserved, still retaining most of its original houses. Conventional in design, the dwellings mostly have round-arched doorways and Classical Georgian facades.
