Galston (about 1 mile to the north) is the nearest town for everyday amenities, with supermarkets, butchers, an ironmonger’s, a bank, a doctor’s surgery and churches. There is a relatively new and popular primary school, whilst Loudon Academy provides secondary schooling in Galston. Private education is available at Ayr.

Kilmarnock and Ayr are 6 miles and 15 miles distant respectively and are larger county towns with a wide range of amenities. Dean Castle at Kilmarnock and Culzean Castle to the south of Ayr are special historical features.

Glasgow city centre is about 22 miles to the north via the A76 which connects with the M77 and M8. As with most major cities, it has an extensive range of retail, higher educational, leisure and professional services. Edinburgh city centre is circa 65 miles to the east via the B744 to Galston and then the A71.

For outdoor enthusiasts this area provides a wealth of activities.

There is a local golf course at Loudon while the championship courses at Turnberry, Troon and historic Prestwick in Ayrshire are all within easy travelling distance. There are a number of leisure facilities in the area including a dry ski slope at Newmilns, swimming pools and a mountain bike club. The Irvine Valley has fine, well-marked, walking routes all within in easy access. The Firth of Clyde and sheltered west coast waters of Scotland provide a variety of water sports including sailing and water-skiing. Grouse and pheasant shooting, and roe deer stalking can be rented locally.

The equestrian community is very well served in the area. Irvine (15 miles) has 3 miles of sandy beach on which horse-riding is permitted. The Eglinton Pony Club organises events for members aged under 21. Barskimming and Auchinleck estates hold rallies and regional events, including Eventing Competitions. Rowallan (near Kilmarnock) has excellent show jumping and dressage arenas. Surrounding Kingarth Lodge there are country lanes and quiet roads which provide many miles of pleasant and easy hacks.

For travel, the property is well positioned for both the M77 and M74.

Prestwick Airport is 12 miles distant, with Glasgow Airport 24 miles distant. Both offer an increasingly wide range of flights to domestic and international destinations. The ferry at Troon is 14 miles distant and has sailings to Arran & Northern Ireland.

From Glasgow City Centre proceed out on the M8 taking the M77 motorway junction. Proceed along the M77/A77 for about 18 miles until leaving exiting the M77 for Galston on the A71. Proceed east for about 3.9 miles to reach the roundabout in Galston. Turn right onto the A719 signposted Ayr/Galston. Proceed through the centre of Galston. After the traffic lights continue in a southerly direction on the A719 for about one hundred yards then turn left onto the B7037. Continue on the B7037 for 1.1 miles then turn left to onto the minor road to find the entrance to Kingarth Lodge on the left-hand side."
