Description
Take a unique insight into a beautifully curated 1800's, Artist’s residence which now could be yours!
Positioned in the original part of Hollins Lane, situated amongst other homes that have a grand presence and beauty of their own, The Cottage, also known as 'La Cigale' named by a previous family with french connections. A name associated with Greek mythology and a famous theatre in France, 'La Cigale' (The Cottage) is a place full of meaningful memories. Let me tell you a few stories to help you understand why this property holds such relevance.
Just behind the cottage is Oak Hill Mansion, situated in the grounds of Oakhill Park. A
Gentleman named Reginald Gervis Hargreaves was born and lived here, he went on to
marry a lady named Alice Liddell. Alice in her childhood was an acquaintance of Lewis
Carroll the writer. Carroll used to tell stories to Alice on their boating trips which later became the classic 1865 children's novel, 'Alice in Wonderland'.
Reginald owned and sold the land in 1899 and what was supposed to be the case, the
cottage it sits on. How fantastic to have such a world known story connected to such a
beautiful home in Accrington!
The Oak Hill Mansion is also connected to the famous American Tiffany Glass. A young man named Joseph Briggs from went to America as an engraver at 17 and worked his way to the top of the Tiffany Glass Company. When the company went bankrupt in 1932, Joseph sent three crates of Tiffany Glass to his home town of Accrington, 2 crates were kept in Oak Hill when it was a Museum and later gifted to Haworth Art Gallery. Haworth Art Gallery and gardens is only a short walk up from number 7 with a children's park on Oak Hill Park, just a 2 minute walk around the corner on the route of Hollins Lane. You have a lovely view of Oak Hill from the main bedroom window.
Filled with classic design whilst keeping a comfortable contemporary living space, number 7 is a stunningly beautiful stone-built home that offers light-filled rooms with original coving, warm wooden accents and refined finishes. A sense of style with an atmosphere that instantly feels welcoming.
From the serene, neutral-toned bedrooms with bespoke built-in wardrobes in the master, to hosting dinner by the fire and sitting rooms with elegant marble fireplaces, every inch feels thoughtfully arranged, perfectly designed to move straight in and enjoy as it is or add your own personality.
The kitchen brings together modern convenience with rustic touches, opening onto a private patio that was made for morning coffee and for evenings to unwind, perfect for quiet reflection or creative inspiration. This is more than a house, you escape the outside as soon as you step inside and the white canvas brings light and positivity to each day.
I personally love how cosy the bedrooms feel, the multi level landing and the walk to the master gives you a wonderful sense of privacy. The second bedroom has potential with a spacious storage cupboard which could be made useful for the bedroom as a personal wardrobe space. The third bedroom serves as a comfortable sized double room too looking out onto Hollins Lane.
The bathroom is elegant and inviting with a free standing bath and separate shower. The lounge is perfectly designed with patio doors opening onto the second outdoor space where you can get creative with flowers and garden arrangements to add to the beautiful background of stone walls or this area has potential to be made into parking as you have the other patio area to enjoy.
