The small village of Upper Swell lies about a mile to the north west of the well-known market town of Stow-on-the-Wold in the Dikler Valley. Stow-on-the-Wold provides excellent facilities for day to day shopping with a supermarket, library, banks and a range of speciality shops. The larger centres of Cheltenham and Stratford-upon-Avon offer a wide range of cultural and leisure facilities.
There are golf courses at Naunton and Broadway with further courses at Stratford-upon-Avon and Cheltenham. National Hunt racing at Cheltenham, Stratford-upon-Avon, Warwick and Worcester. There are theatres at Stratford-upon-Avon, Cheltenham and Malvern. The well known Lygon Arms, Broadway, has a country club in which local residents may take membership.
