Description
Description
Jakemans is an attractive Grade II Listed four bedroom detached cottage, located in the picturesque South Oxfordshire village of Berrick Salome. The property is believed to have dated originally from the early 18th century and occupies a pretty position, with surrounding mature gardens and backing onto neighbouring countryside. It is currently a blank canvas with an opportunity to renovate the home to take advantage of its original period features.
The front door leads into a period reception room with lovely exposed ceiling beams, wooden floors and a large brick built fireplace. Adjacent is a cosy sitting room with another working fireplace and full of character features. The generous kitchen has a country feel and has been finished with terracotta floor tiles, sage green wooden cabinetry and a butler sink.
The open kitchen sits towards the back of the house with views over the rear garden and backs onto the conservatory, which offers great accommodation for a large dining table and entertaining. This offers a potential buyer the opportunity to extend the kitchen further onto the garden subject to the normal planning constraints. The ground floor also includes a separate utility, study, cloakroom and a separate rear entrance with a porch.
On the first floor you have three double bedrooms and two bathrooms. The principal bedroom has its own set of steps, built-in wardrobes and an en suite shower room. There is also a family bathroom off the landing. On the top floor is an additional fourth bedroom which is located within the eaves. This room gives a glimpse into the history of the home with some of the original wooden trusses being exposed. The fourth bedroom also comes with an en suite bathroom and likely a good area for guests to stay.
Outside
Jakemans is accessed from the main road and will have a shared access with the existing home next door. The access leads to a private driveway with parking for two cars and a garage.
The home sits on an approximate plot of 0.46 acres. To the rear is a lovely garden which is predominantly laid to lawn and is bordered by mature trees, hedgerows, climbers and perennials. Beyond the borders are views of surrounding countryside which could be opened up further. At the front is a pedestrian entrance from the main road with a front lawn and a pathway which shows off the lovely stone façade and wisteria.
Location
The property is set in the beautiful rural Oxfordshire village of Berrick Salome. The village has a thriving community and popular gastropub, The Chequers Inn and also Home Sweet Home in the village of Roke. The nearby village of Benson has facilities including shops, library, church, village hall and primary school.
Just about 5 miles away you have the market town of Watlington, set in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, with many amenities to include, butchers, deli, coffee shop, post office, supermarket and public houses. The market town of Wallingford is 7 miles away and provides extensive shopping and recreational amenities. Larger supermarkets, and a wider range of shopping and leisure facilities are available in Henley-on-Thames 13 miles, or Oxford 11 miles.
