Description

Location:
St John's Church is located within Whittingham, an expanding semi-rural village which is located approximately 4 miles to the north-east of Preston city centre 1.8 miles from junction 32 of the M6 and Junction 1 of the M55. The Church sits centrally within a large residential masterplan, yet is nestled within a secluded landscape, given its immediate boundaries include established trees.

Vehicular access to the Church can be connected by the developer, to Teasel Close (upon its adoption), which is just off Tansy Road, the main spine road running through Phase 2 of Barratt David Wilson's scheme at the site.

Description:
The property comprises a former Church built in 1873 to serve the patients and staff of the former Whittingham Hospital. The building is of traditional construction, comprising sandstone walls, cast iron columns and timber roof trusses within the high vaulted ceiling.

St John's Church has remained vacant since the Hospital's closure in 1995 and has been subject to deterioration in this time, with much of the interior fixtures having been stripped out. The internal and external walls are in a good condition, providing opportunity for substantial renovation / redevelopment for a variety of different uses, including residential or commercial accommodation.

The principal of conversion of St John's Church has previously been established through the consent granted in the planning application for the surrounding residential development. It has already, therefore, been accepted that the original use of the building as a Church is not a viable option and a new use should be found for the building.
