Description

Stone cottage with generous south facing garden in an idyllic rural location

Description

Grieves Cottage is a detached, stone-built home with a south-facing garden. The entrance to the property is located on the east side, where there is a vestibule. A small entrance hallway provides access to a ground floor bedroom and the sitting room.

The sitting room is dual-aspect and features a wood-burning stove. There is ample space for a dining table, and a door leads through to the kitchen. The main bathroom is situated beyond the kitchen.

On the first floor, there are two double bedrooms, one of which benefits from an adjoining store room. Externally accessed, there is a separate store room/home office.

The garden at Grieves Cottage is located to the south. It is mainly laid to lawn and enclosed by a low stone wall. The garden overlooks open countryside and is interspersed with a variety of mature shrubs and trees. There is a patio area surrounding the house, as well as a large deck near the bottom of the garden which is an ideal spot for outdoor dining.

Location

Grieves Cottage is situated between Dunbar and Cockburnspath on Scotland’s east coast, and is less than a mile from the sea. The house is situated on the edge of a small hamlet which lies 6.5 miles to the southeast of Dunbar. To the south is Berwick-upon-Tweed and the border with England, along with a spectacular coastline which features fishing villages built around picturesque harbours and sandy unspoilt beaches.

Dunbar is a popular town in East Lothian only 30 miles from Edinburgh with a direct train service into Edinburgh Waverley. The birthplace of conservationist and explorer John Muir who pioneered the creation of National Parks, Dunbar has a bustling high street full of independent shops and local businesses and is also home to historic twinned harbours and a ruined castle. It is renowned for its high sunshine record and stunning coastline which is a haven for surfers and sea swimmers. There is a local primary and secondary school and private preparatory education is available near Dunbar at Belhaven.

Dunbar railway station (7.5 miles) is on the main Edinburgh to London line and provides a direct link to Edinburgh, while Berwick-upon-Tweed railway station is also on the Edinburgh to London line (22.5 miles). Edinburgh Airport, with its increasingly wide range of domestic and international flights, is only 45 miles away. There is a dual carriageway and motorway connection to Edinburgh or south towards the English Border via the A1.
