A Small History Of The House
‘Waveney House’ is a historic and beautiful Grade II listed property situated just a stone’s throw from an excellent range of independent shops, including a traditional fishmonger, butcher and greengrocer, baker and a highly regarded delicatessen. There is also a delightful flower shop, an artist's shop and a very interesting gallery that changes it’s artists regularly to stoke your interest.
The house is a stunning 17C home that has, in 2017, undergone a huge renovation programme (commissioned by the current owner), which lasted a year. The house is attached to the old servants' quarters next door. The house now offers modern fixtures and fittings, and behind the scenes updates which are expected in such a prestigious property.
It is situated on the very edge of Bungay, so commands wonderful, uninterrupted views from the gardens towards the Village of Earsham. The delightful River Waveney (which runs through the garden) offers fishing rights to the owner.
Bungay is a vibrant market town which has an excellent choice of restaurants, cafes and public houses. It also boasts one of the smallest Theatres in the Country, being The Fisher Theatre; which is steeped in history and offers a full range of excellent programmes throughout the year.
Bungay also hosts four popular annual street markets, along with the celebrated ‘Black Dog Festive’, adding colour and culture to the town’s calendar. Outdoor enthusiasts can take advantage of a private golf course on the historic Outney Meadow, which is easily reached within a safe walking distance from the town. There is no need to play golf to enjoy the Meadow, as there are lots of paths for walkers (with or without dogs) to enjoy.
There are a host of other delightful walks in and around Bungay and the historic 1103 Bungay Castle is located in the centre. Now a ruin, but steeped in history.
Bungay is perfectly placed between the Medieval City of Norwich and the picturesque seaside town of Southwold, with its unspoilt coast; it offers excellent links to both city life and seaside relaxation.
A Note From The Owner
My late husband and I put our heart and soul into the renovation project for this fabulous house.
I have also thoroughly enjoyed getting to know this wonderful town with all it has to offer.
The people here are all very welcoming and friendly. I found an instant acceptance into the community and have loved every minute of living here in Waveney House. It has been a privilege to be part of the history of this historic and beautiful house.
Sadly, it is time to move on and hope whoever the new owner is, will fall in love with the house, as I have done, and all that Bungay has to offer.
Bungay town has its own motto - ‘Moribus antiquis pareamus' let us ever hold fast to the old values.
