About the area:
Wells is the smallest city in England (population about 11,000) lying in beautiful countryside between the Somerset Levels and the Mendip Hills – an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. The major towns of the area being Bristol, Bath, Taunton and Yeovil are all within commuting distance. Castle Cary is the nearest train station with fast links to London. Wells has local markets twice a week and many medieval buildings including the Cathedral and moated Bishops Palace. There is a busy local shopping centre, a broad range of societies and activities and excellent state and independent schools in the area including a number of primary schools, Wells Blue School, Wells Cathedral School and Millfield.
South Horrington is a relatively new village, created in the 1990s, and with excellent access to Wells. The village is centred around a Victorian hospital, which has been thoughtfully converted into characterful houses and apartments. The original building was designed by architect Sir Gilbert Scott, who is renowned for his work on the London Foreign Office, the Albert Memorial, and St. Pancras Station. It stands in a commanding position looking across its own mature grounds and wooded hills beyond. Residents benefit from extensive communal gardens, a cricket pitch, superb views, and a quiet, secure environment with no through traffic.
The Beeches is a distinctive property set apart from the main Victorian buildings. It enjoys a high degree of privacy, with its own secluded garden and private driveway.
