Description

Description

Christie & Co are delighted to bring to market the opportunity to purchase a family run garden centre established in 1977 located in the West Midlands between the historic market town of Walsall and the Royal Town of Sutton Coldfield. The garden centre is set in a well-established residential area, close to the A452 and M6 as well as being close to a range of other popular attractions including Barr Beacon Nature Reserve and Calderfields Golf & Country Club.
Valley Nurseries Garden Centre is a well-presented family run garden centre stocking a wide variety of plants and gardening products including major brands and smaller regional products. The garden centre also benefits from an onsite coffee shop, complimentary concession businesses and children’s play area.

Location

Valley Nurseries and Garden Centre occupies a prominent plot on a busy local road within the Aldridge area of Walsall. The garden centre is within easy access of Sutton Coldfield (4 miles) and Birmingham (10.1 miles).

The site is just over a mile away from Barr Beacon Local Nature Reserve one of the highest points in the West Midlands, a popular spot for walking and orienteering.

According to the latest census data there are over 3,036,045 people living within a 25 kilometer radius of Valley Nurseries and Garden Centre.

The Opportunity

Valley Nurseries has been a family run business for over 48 year and has grown over time to include a popular coffee shop making the centre an attractive destination for families and customers looking for more than just plants and gardening products.
The owners have also grown the “concession” income generated from the site which with a new tenancy being arranged on one vacant building now looks to be in excess of £50,000 per year.
The site offers scope for the new owners to continue to build concession income through the building and letting of additional units.
Some years ago a parcel of land to the West of the site was sold to a developer who built and sold 4 executive homes. Although no planning permission is currently in place it is anticipated that the site may have alternative use options that could be explored in the future.

Staff

The garden centre and coffee shop are currently run by the owners with the assistance of a small team of employees comprised of 9 part time staff working in the coffee shop and an additional 4 working in the garden centre. These staff will transfer with the business under TUPE.

Trading Information

The garden centre has an annual turnover in the region of £300,000 and the coffee shop which is run by the family has a
turnover of around £100,000. The coffee shop has proved to be a profitable business and is set to achieve around £150,000 turnover in its second year of trading.
The business also benefits from a strong rental income. For the financial year ending 31st March 2025 the rental income was £46,392. An additional licence has been agreed which will bring the rental income from the site to just over £52,000 per annum.
