Description
The Tour
The De Beauvoir estate was built in the 1960s, on what had been predominantly industrial land. The Regent’s Canal borders in the south, with Shoreditch Park just beyond. Its colourful buildings have become synonymous with the local area.
This apartment lies in one of the estate’s lower-rise buildings. Entry is via stairs, which leads to a communal walkway on the second floor.
A corridor bisects the apartment’s plan, with three useful storage cupboards. Wooden floorboards and white-painted walls begin here and continue throughout.
The living space is at the rear; light is ushered in by a window here, and by a window in the kitchen opposite. A generous doorway seperates the two, or can be left open to create a seamless sense of flow. White cabinets, matching tiles, oak counters and integrated appliances create a crisp, fresh feel.
The bedroom sits adjacent, with a large built-in wardrobe providing ample storage. The view here is the same treetop-skimming aspect as the living room, with the water of the Regent's Canal also visible. Next to the front door, the bathroom is a similarly fresh space, with white tiles (the same as in the kitchen) and a shower above the bath.
Outdoor Space
Residents have access to a charming community allotment area on the estate.
The Area
The De Beauvoir Estate is remarkably well-placed. It is minutes from the Rose Lipman building, where coffee shop Batch Baby is a local favourite, along with the De Beauvoir Arms, the De Beauvoir Deli, and Sweet Thursday, a delicious pizza spot. The Scolt Head, a popular, friendly pub, is also nearby. Other local favourites include Towpath Cafe, jacross the road, Albers, Goodbye Horses and sister ice cream/wine spot The Dreamery and local wine bars Hector's and Dan's. For greenery, De Beauvoir Square is a few minutes away and has a beautiful rose garden. Also nearby are co-working spaces for creatives, including De Beauvoir Block and Young Space, as well as the impressive gym and other sports facilities at the new Britannia Leisure Centre on the edge of Shoreditch Park.
Newington Green is a short walk north and has become synonymous with a first-rate culinary culture in recent years. It is known as the home of some of north-east London's best-loved restaurants, including Jolene, Perilla and Cadet. There is also a brilliant greengrocer, an Italian deli, a florist and a health food shop, all set around the leafy garden square.
Dalston is even closer to home and is the setting of the Dalston Eastern Curve Garden, a beautifully planted outdoor café that serves drinks and also plays host to a range of events. Favourite restaurants and bars in Dalston include Mangal II, Little Duck | The Picklery, Brilliant Corners and The Spurstowe.
There is plenty of greenery nearby, from Shoreditch Park and Haggerston Park to London Fields and, a little further afield (via a glorious canalside walk), Victoria Park. Stoke Newington, Broadway Market, Angel and Islington's Upper Street are all easily reached.
Haggerston station is under a 10-minute walk from the apartment and runs Overground services (Windrush line) on a north-south axis. Dalston Kingsland (Mildmay line; 20 minutes' walk away) and Essex Road (National Rail; 15 minutes' walk away) are also in easy reach. The City and Old Street station are within walking distance of the apartment, or can be easily reached by one of the many bus routes that serve the local area.
There is convenient residents parking just outside, for which permits can be secured via Hackney Council.
