Description
Quinta das Fontainhas is a historic 18th-century estate, featuring a chapel, a strong winemaking tradition, abundant water, and multiple buildings supporting agricultural and residential use.
The property requires interior and exterior renovation works.
The Quinta preserves a remarkable winemaking heritage, including two stone winepresses, oak barrels, mechanical presses, farming tools, and ornamental stone tanks, all supplied by its own natural spring water. It also has two natural springs and four wells of excellent quality, ensuring great autonomy and water wealth for the estate.
Beyond its agricultural and patrimonial value, the property is located in the region of Sobral de Monte Agraço, a territory associated with the Lines of Torres Vedras, one of the most important defensive systems of the Peninsular War, reinforcing the historical and cultural significance of its location.

ORIGINS AND CONSTRUCTION
Quinta das Fontainhas was built in the 18th century, by order of José Gomes da Paz.
In 1877, public mass was authorized to be celebrated on the property, which at that time belonged to Vitorino José de Avellar Telles; that authorization still exists today and is displayed on a side wall of the Quinta.
It features a family oratory in a corner room, representing the typical domestic religious dimension of the period.
HISTORICAL CONTEXT — FRENCH INVASIONS
During the French Invasions (1807–1811), the municipality of Sobral de Monte Agraço was integrated into the First Defensive Line of the Lines of Torres Vedras, playing a strategic role, especially around the Forte do Alqueidão (about 2 km south of the town), which served as the command post of the defenses on the Monte Agraço ridge.
Quinta das Fontainhas was used during this period; even today one can still perceive spaces of military use, such as an armament warehouse, stables, among others.
The Quinta enjoys open views over the village of Malgas, which at the time provided a strategic military outlook over the valley and surrounding areas.
