Description
It’s definitely bittersweet for us to say goodbye to Ermine Road: the sense of community with the lovely neighbours, the quietness of road while still be incredibly close to Ladywell Village, Hilly Fields and Lewisham services makes its location just perfectly convenient and yet private.
We also loved deeply the house itself: when we bought it 4 years ago, we instantly fell in love with the original stained windows on the staircase and its generous proportions. Even though it needed a full refurbishment and I was pregnant with my second child, we couldn’t really resist its charme. During the works, we mentioned many times how it was such a beautiful privilege to restore it into a modern yet inviting and warm family home, to host the many merry memories to come.
We opened the living room on the dining room to create a better flow in the living area, which has proven incredibly pleasant and has enhanced the light throughout. We restored the original floorboards and slivered them, to create a smooth and continuous flooring without losing the period charme. We opened the fireplaces and serviced them, so they can be used if so desired. We installed a new Worchester boiler and installed new windows throughout.
We took care of the front garden to create privacy and an incredibly relaxing view over nature on both side of the house. We fully repainted the outside in Farrow&Ball colours that enhance the delight of hanging out in the garden, which we planted with all our favourite specimens to create interest all year round. The fact that the house is semi detached really is a bonus with the kids and while gardening too.
We also created a better access to the generous under roof storage and boarded the floor, to make sure we could make the most of the attic (again: kids!). Being in a street under permitted development, it’s easy to also plan for a loft extension if need be. This house has been the background of many happy moments in our family and it’s going to be very emotional for us to let it go, but we are ready for our new chapter and we are sure that it will find a new family that will love it as much as we did!
