When we first came to Silchester, we were hoping to find a true village community while still being within easy reach of work and the wider area. What we actually discovered was far more than we ever expected! A welcoming place with so much charm, character, and warmth that it instantly felt like home.

Life here offers the best of village living. The Calleva Arms is just a short stroll away and has been a favourite spot for great food, friendly faces, and brilliant community events, from summer theatre evenings to Christmas carols around the tree. The cricket green is another hub, with its newly refurbished pavilion and pop-up café that does an excellent hot chocolate. The children’s play park, local sports clubs, and annual events like the fete and Silfest bring people together in a way that makes the village truly special.

For anyone who loves the outdoors, the walking and cycling routes are endless. Whether through woodland, across open heath, and around the remarkable Roman town and amphitheatre on the doorstep. It’s an area that makes it easy to enjoy the fresh air and countryside at any time of year.
