Description
Boyton is a small rural village in East Suffolk, about eight miles east of Woodbridge and close to Orford Ness. With a population of just 147 recorded in the 2011 Census, it is a quiet community surrounded by marshes and creeks that form part of Suffolk's Heritage Coast. The village has deep historical roots, mentioned in the Domesday Book of 1086 and later associated with finds such as a Bronze Age gold torque, now housed in the British Museum. Notable landmarks include the medieval Church of St Andrew, with its Norman doorway, and the Mary Warner Almshouses, built around 1740. Today, Boyton retains its character as a peaceful parish, with nearby Boyton Marshes managed by the RSPB, offering rich wildlife habitats and a glimpse into the area's natural beauty.
