Both villages have parks and recreational spaces and have public transport links with regular buses serving the area, along with nearby train stations in Blaydon, Prudhoe and Wylam. Ryton is situated at the edge of the Tyne Valley and there are popular walks and cycle routes in the area, including along the River Tyne. Newcastle city centre is approximately 7 miles to the east, and the A695 bypass provides an excellent link road east and west.
