Description

The Property:

Oak Cottage is a delightful period ‘long cottage’ behind a red brick façade with inset casement windows, under a clay tiled roof to the front, and a brick and flint rear elevation. Most of the rooms are double aspect creating a lovely light and bright feel. The sitting room has an open fireplace and French doors that open into the garden. The kitchen/dining room is fitted with a range of hand painted units with integrated appliances and space for a table. There is a utility room and boot room. The first floor has a principal bedroom with an ensuite bathroom; there are three further bedrooms and a shower room.

Outside, the property is approached by a brick path to the front door with a low-level hedge and planted borders. A five-bar gate opens onto a gravel driveway that provides plenty of parking and accesses the timber double garage, stables and store/tack room. The gardens are a delight; there is a terrace directly behind the house with a shaped brick and flint wall with steps that graduate onto the lawn, with flower and shrub beds and several lovely trees. The rear garden backs onto open farmland and the garden faces south.

The Location:

Bighton is a vibrant village with a strong sense of community, centred around its village hall, Church and renowned pub The Three Horseshoes. Just three miles away is the charming and popular market town of Alresford, a picturesque Georgian town nestled on the edge of the South Downs National Park. More comprehensive facilities can be found in Winchester and Alton, both with mainline rail services into London Waterloo. The area benefits from an excellent choice of state and private schooling for all age groups and outdoor pursuits are particularly well catered for with excellent opportunities for riding, walking, fishing, and shooting.

Directions:

Leave Winchester in an easterly direction along the Alresford Road for roughly two miles, at the Percy Hobbs Roundabout take the first exit onto the A31 and continue for just under four miles. At the roundabout, take the first exit and head into New Alresford Town Centre, then turn left onto Broad Street. After roughly half a mile, turn right onto Bighton Lane, signposted as Bighton. Continue for roughly two miles, past the Three Horseshoes Public House, and the house will be found on the right hand side, as identified by our for sale board.
