Every now and again, a house comes onto the market that has some very special qualities and this is such a house. 20 years ago, the current owners took a ruin and transformed it into a rich, traditionally-styled home full of character. Throughout, there are nods to Andalucian and Moorish design and style, with elements that excite and delight without being overly theatrical. The living areas are comforting and welcoming; the main bedroom is bright and airy; there are well-considered storage spaces that are essential in any home. At the top of the house, there is a full length roof terrace that is clearly frequently used for generous dinners beneath the stars, with the moon reflected in the sea beyond.

Ground Floor

Off a pretty little placeta, the front door opens into a hallway from where stairs rise to the upper floors. Immediately, you are drawn into the long and almost opulent living room which cleverly provides two salons and a dining room. Exposed timber beams and tiled floors. At one end, there is a smart-controlled pellet burner that provides most of the heat necessary for the house.

Off the dining area, there is a stylish and well-equipped kitchen.

First Floor

The feature of the first floor is the main bedroom with windows that open onto a Juliet balcony and there is an open fireplace at one end. It's a lovely room, again with exposed timber ceiling beams.

There is a large utility room with washing machine and plenty of storage for laundry and clothes.

Painted brick staircase leads up to the top floor roof terrace. A fabulous space extending the length of the property and with a rear area for hanging laundry or, possibly, for the addition of an outdoor kitchen.

The floor of the terrace has been reinforced and waterproofed and there used to be a plunge pool up here; this could be reinstated.

As it stands, this is a wonderful area in which to entertain or simply to relax, with views to the mountains as far as the Sierra Nevada and with uninterrupted views of the sea.

The property is in a very peaceful corner of Gualchos, just around the corner from the delightful village square. The beaches at Castell de Ferro are 7 kms away.
