Description
The History
Electricity House, originally built for the Electricity Board in central Bristol, is a Grade II listed 1930s Portland stone building designed by the renowned architect Sir Giles Gilbert Scott - the designer of the red telephone box and Battersea Power Station, amongst many other notable buildings. Converted into 86 apartments in 2015, the project set about modernising the space while respecting the building’s heritage, retaining features such as the original courtyard and atrium. These central spaces connect the building and create a sense of light and openness for residents.
The Home
This no-chain apartment in the Grade II listed Electricity House is accessed via a lift and benefits from a daily concierge service. On entry, you are welcomed into a spacious hallway with easy access to each room. At the front of the home, you’ll find the second bedroom - a flexible space currently used as a dressing room. Next door is the main bathroom, which is modern in style and features a bath-and-shower combination.
At the rear of the apartment is the main bedroom, complete with built-in wardrobes, three large windows, and a modern en suite bathroom. To the left, you’ll find an open-plan living space stretching the full length of the apartment, offering plenty of room for relaxing or hosting dinner parties. Within this space, the contemporary fitted kitchen includes integrated appliances, with white goods included in the sale.
The apartment also comes with an allocated parking space in a secure car park and dedicated storage for bicycles.
Living in the City Centre
The area offers an array of shops right on the doorstep, including Cabot Circus and Broadmead. The restaurants, bars, museums, and cafés of Bristol’s Harbourside are just minutes away on foot to the south-west, while the business quarter of Finzels Reach, just across the bridge, provides a wide range of places to eat and drink. Clifton, Cotham, and Stokes Croft are also easily accessible from this central base.
To the west, the expansive Ashton Court Estate is a short drive or cycle away, while the M32 and Temple Meads station to the east offer quick routes out of the city. A major benefit of this location is its proximity to many large employers, including several major law firms, banks, charities, and energy companies based in the city centre.
