The porchway at the front is such a handy feature, it’s the perfect spot to take off coats and shoes before stepping into the cosy living room. This room has been beautifully decorated, with a pop of colour on the woodwork that gives it a modern twist whilst keeping that country charm. I’ve always loved a log burner, it’s not just a great source of heating, but it makes the whole space feel warm and welcoming, especially on winter evenings.
At the back of the house, the kitchen is one of my favourite spaces. The navy units with grey worktops look so stylish, and with the sink overlooking the garden, it’s a lovely place to spend time, even when you’re washing the dishes! There’s even room for a small table, which makes it perfect for enjoying a morning coffee or a relaxed evening meal.
Upstairs, the main bedroom feels generous, with fitted wardrobes and a clever storage cupboard over the stairs. The second bedroom at the back really struck me with its beautiful views, it’s such a peaceful retreat, ideal if you want a quiet space to unwind. The shower room has been modernised and the velux window allows daylight into the reroofed attic space.
Outside, the west facing garden is low maintenance but full of charm. My favourite part is the seating area at the back, overlooking the canal. I can just picture sitting out here and watching the sun set, it’s such a magical spot.

“Welcome to our cottage! It's been a labour of love renovating it. We have been here 29 years and found so much pleasure living next to the canal. We brought our daughter up here and now she has her own child we are finding it difficult to accommodate them both when visiting, which is why we have decided to make the very hard decision to move on. The schools are great, the pubs even better and sat out by the canal-side of an evening watching the sun set is so special”.
The Area:
The village of Willington is beautiful and a fantastic village for a family. The local Willington Primary School feeds into John Port School in the neighbouring village of Etwall. There are local amenities in the centre of the village including a Co-op, Post Office, Doctors Surgery, Chip shop and several pubs on the canal. With several fields, it is a popular walkers village with easy access to the canal path, leading to Mercia Marina with independent shops, restaurants and cafes. For commuters, it’s a short drive to the A38 which leads to Derby City Centre, Royal Derby Hospital and the A50. The bus service which runs through the village goes to Derby City Centre as well as Burton Town Centre.
