Description
32 Bondgate occupies an enviable position just a short level walk away from the Market Square in the centre of the renowned Georgian market town of Helmsley, itself located on the southern edge of the North York Moors National Park where the river Rye descends from the Moors. It is rightly regarded as the jewel in the crown of this beautiful part of the countryside. There are many attractions in the area to include the North York Moors Steam Railway based at Pickering, mansion houses such as Castle Howard and Nunnington Hall and ecclesiastical ruins to include Rievaulx Abbey and Byland Abbey. The area has a rich history as shown by the castles not only at Helmsley but also at Pickering and Scarborough and in addition, the city of York with its city walls and superb Minster lies within easy reach about 25 miles away to the south. Helmsley itself has a full range of local facilities to include churches, public houses, hotels, post office and a wide variety of retails outlets. Of particular interest is the nearby mansion house of Duncombe Park, home to Lord Feversham and heart of the eponymous estate and whose parkland adjoins the town centre and which is available for recreational use by the general public.
32 Bondgate is constructed in the vernacular style of stone elevations under a pantile roof and has been sympathetically extended to the rear so as to provide comfortable, high quality living accommodation whilst at the same time, managing to preserve the period feel of the property. Particular features include latched Pine boarded doors, exposed ceiling timbers and a Pine staircase and balustrade.
A panelled front door opens to a shared Entrance Hall opening to a good sized Sitting Room with exposed ceiling timbers, a wide front window with deep cill, Pine boarded floor and a fireplace housing a wood burning stove with TV plinth to one side, two wall light points, display recess and built-in bookcase. To the rear is an Inner Lobby with Terracotta tiled floor with access to the Cloakroom and beyond, a well appointed fitted Kitchen recessed ceiling lights, tiled floor, worksurfaces with cupboards and drawers beneath, double oven with 4-ring hob and stainless steel extractor hood above, stainless steel sink unit with mixer tap, wall mounted gas boiler and double glazed window units to the rear.
To the first floor is a small Galleried Landing with Pine balustrade, a principal double bedroom to the front elevation whilst adjacent is a contemporary House Bathroom with wall tiling, bath in tiled surrounds, mixer tap with shower head, low level flush WC and washbasin. To the rear is the second bedroom with double glazed windows.
To the rear of the house is a low maintenance enclosed south facing courtyard garden comprising a raised stone flagged Sun Terrace. Beyond is a brick outbuilding converted for use as a Studio complete with electric power. To the rear is an area of raised decking and an adjacent Log Store and timber Garden Store. A rear gateway leads to a path providing pedestrian access to Pottergate.
