Hereford is a cathedral city that lies on the banks of the River Wye and is 16 miles east of the border with Wales, 23 miles north west of Gloucester and 24 miles south west of Worcester and has a population of 53,000 residents. In general Herefordshire is a relatively wealthy area with a high level of education and strong house prices.

The city has many independently owned stores and high street chains with excellent restaurants including Beefy Boys, the Book Shop serving Herefordshire beef and many more. There is a retail market Wednesday and Saturday and a produce and craft market every third Thursday and the first Saturday of each month to enjoy. Waitrose and M & S can be found in the city along with all other supermarkets so you are spoilt for choice.

Hereford is most famous for its apple orchards and cider production and The Barrels, an 18th Century coaching inn, located in St Owens Street was recently named in the top 50 pubs in the UK by the Telegraph, offering a wide selection of cask ales and draft beers.

Hereford's most notable claim to fame is that it has one of the original old medieval maps, the Mappa Mundi. You will find the black & White House Museum and the Cider Museum..
