Description
A charming and attractive four-bedroom detached house set in a highly regarded west Purley location, this much-loved family home has been in the same ownership for around 55 years and has been carefully maintained throughout. It now offers an exciting opportunity for a new owner to modernise and update to their own taste, with plenty of scope to enhance and extend, stp.
The accommodation is arranged around a spacious and welcoming entrance hall with parquet flooring, creating an immediate sense of character and warmth on arrival. From here, doors lead to a double-aspect sitting room featuring an inglenook-style fireplace, a front-facing window and double doors opening onto a covered loggia, providing a delightful space to enjoy the garden in all seasons. The separate dining room overlooks the rear garden and has direct access outside, making it ideal for family meals and entertaining, while the large kitchen/family room offers a good range of fitted units and another door onto the garden, forming a practical hub for everyday living and informal dining. From the kitchen area, a cosy snug/TV room also opens onto the garden, giving a flexible extra reception space that can be used as a playroom, home office or relaxation area, and there is a useful downstairs cloakroom completing the ground floor.
Stairs rise to the first floor where there are four generous bedrooms, each offering comfortable proportions and pleasant outlooks, together with two family bathrooms, providing excellent flexibility for a growing family or visiting guests. The layout lends itself well to future updating, with potential to create an impressive main suite or to reconfigure to suit individual requirements.
To the rear, the property enjoys a truly beautiful and established garden, featuring a level lawn, patio area, mature shrubs and trees and a charming summer house. This tranquil outdoor space is perfect for relaxing, gardening, children’s play and entertaining, and offers a wonderful backdrop to the house. To the front, there is an integral double garage and an attractive in-out style driveway, providing ample parking, easy access and strong kerb appeal in this sought-after Purley address.

My Life My Home
Our parents chose 19 Green Lane back in 1970, and it became the centre of our family life for the next 55 years. They were drawn to its location — close to good transport links into Croydon and London, with buses and trains from Purley, Wallington and Coulsdon South, and with a wide choice of respected local schools such as Woodcote, Collingwood, Croydon High, Purley High, Wilsons, and John Fisher. Local amenities were all within easy reach, making day-to-day life simple and convenient.
The house itself was always a source of pride. In the 1980s, our parents extended it to the left, enlarging the kitchen, adding a double garage, creating a sun room at the rear, and a second bathroom above. They used reclaimed roof tiles so the extension blended seamlessly with the original house. The property is solidly built, with original oak parquet flooring across much of the ground floor and oak strip flooring upstairs. The south-east facing garden has always been a joy, catching the sun for most of the day, while the in-and-out driveway made life easier and provided plenty of parking.
Life at Green Lane was full of activity. As children, we joined local Scouting and Guiding groups, took part in events at St Mark’s Church, and enjoyed the community around us. The house and garden hosted countless gatherings — birthday parties, Christmas celebrations, and even two wedding receptions. Later, grandchildren brought new energy and laughter, with some attending local schools such as Seaton House, Priory, Homefield, Nonsuch High, and Whitgift.
Looking back, 19 Green Lane was not just a practical choice with its excellent transport links, schools, and local facilities — it was the perfect home base for our family, filled with memories that we will always treasure.
