Freehold

Description

Dating back to the mid-17th century, this exceptional property has been lovingly and comprehensively renovated by the current owners, creating a refined family residence that marries period character with modern comfort and practicality.
Every element of the home has been carefully considered, from the newly installed kitchen and bathrooms to the sympathetically restored fireplace fitted with a thatch-friendly wood-burning stove. The result is a warm, elegant and highly functional home, rich in original features yet perfectly suited to contemporary living.
Accommodation
The front door opens into a welcoming and generously proportioned entrance hall, providing access to all ground floor accommodation, including the integral garage. A discreet cloakroom and ample space for coats and boots add everyday practicality.
To the rear of the cottage lies the heart of the home: a beautifully appointed open-plan kitchen and dining space, flooded with natural light and opening directly onto the garden through bi-fold doors. This is a superb setting for both family life and entertaining, seamlessly connecting interior and exterior spaces. Stairs rise from the dining area to the first floor.
At the front of the house are two atmospheric reception rooms forming part of the original 17th-century structure. The principal sitting room and a separate study or snug retain exposed timber beams and a wonderfully cosy ambience, offering intimate spaces for relaxation or quiet retreat.
The first floor provides three well-proportioned double bedrooms and a generous fourth bedroom, ideal as a nursery, guest room or home office. The newly fitted en suite and family bathroom have been finished to an excellent standard, featuring high-quality fixtures and tasteful, timeless design.

Outside
To the rear, the garden offers a peaceful and private setting, ideal for family enjoyment, al fresco dining or summer entertaining. To the front, the cottage enjoys charming kerb appeal, complemented by off-street parking and garage access.

Heritage & Location
Grove Cottage is believed to be one of the oldest houses in Stewkley, and originally granted to the landowners by deed from Oliver Cromwell. Many original architectural features remain, including exposed timber framing and a central chimney breast. A collection of historic documents relating to the cottage will be passed on to the next custodians, adding to the sense of provenance and continuity.
Stewkley is widely regarded as one of Buckinghamshire`s most desirable villages, celebrated for its strong community, historic character and excellent local amenities. The village offers a shop, public house and a well-regarded primary school. Leighton Buzzard station is within easy reach, providing direct services to London Euston in under 35 minutes.

Vendor Insight
"We have loved our five years here, and wouldn`t be leaving if we didn`t simply need more space for our ever-growing family. We have always considered ourselves custodians rather than owners, given the long history of the property and the many families throughout history that will have lived here. We`ve modernised entirely during our tenure, including a full overhaul of the electrics, draining and heating, and new windows throughout. We`ve updated the kitchen and bathrooms, adding an extra shower room, and bringing the fireplace back to life with a log burner. We love spending winter evenings in the Sitting Room with a fire burning, and with much of family life happening in the kitchen, our priority was the major works in the kitchen which allows for inside / outside living, and so much more light.

Stewkley was our village of choice due to its incredible community, centred around the primary school, pubs, and village rec. We`ve made life long friends here and we`re hoping not to move very far as a result! Having a school, two pubs and the playing fields all on the door step, plus Leighton Buzzard, MK and Aylesbury all a short drive away means we feel we have the best of both worlds: access to everything we need alongside idyllic countryside."
