Historical Highlights

• Timeline: The school served the community for decades. In 1945, it became the Gainsborough Lea Road County Primary School and the Lea Road Secondary Modern School for Girls.

• Renaming: In 1956, the secondary side was renamed Gainsborough South Secondary School before closing in 1965. The infant school section continued until 1994.  

• Architecture: It is a classic example of Victorian/Edwardian educational architecture. While many locals believe it is a listed building, it is actually not currently on the Historic England list, giving more flexibility for development.
