Location

The Balmashie Site has a wonderful setting next to Fairmont Golf Resort. It looks out over the golf course and farmland to the Fife coastline. The site adjoins a complex of nine holiday cottages and is surrounded by farmland. The neighbouring Fairmont St Andrews resort has two world-class courses, The Torrance and The Kittocks.

Balmashie is about three miles from St Andrews. The town is renowned worldwide as the Home of Golf. There are now eight golf courses managed by The Links Trust in St Andrews. The Old Course is arguably the most famous golf course in the world and next host the Open Championship in 2027. Other golf courses in the area including traditional links courses at Kingsbarns, Elie and Crail and a new course at Dumbarnie.

St Andrews is also well known for its university which is one of the oldest in Britain, founded in 1413. The historic town has a good range of shops, hotels, restaurants and recreational and cultural facilities which include a cinema and The Byre Theatre. Beyond St Andrews is the East Neuk of Fife, with a spectacular coastline which boasts fishing villages built around picturesque harbours and sandy, unspoilt beaches.

Access to St Andrews by rail, road and air is good. Leuchars railway station (8 miles) is on the main Aberdeen to London line and provides a fast link to Dundee and Edinburgh. Edinburgh Airport, with a wide range of domestic and international flights, is 50 miles away and Dundee Airport is 15 miles.

From the roundabout at the east end of South Street in the centre of St Andrews drive south on Abbey Street (A917). Continue along St Mary Street and out of town, keeping left at the mini-roundabouts onto the A917 signposted to Crail.

Pass the entrance for Fairmont St Andrews on the left hand side of the road. The drive to Balmashie is the next road on the left. Follow the drive to the corner. The cottage / office and site is immediately on the left.
