About Cluttons, Wapping - Lettings

3 Wapping High Street, London, E1W 1LS
Industry affiliations:

Cluttons is a limited liability partnership of Chartered Surveyors, founded in 1765. Although proud of our long history, we are a forward-looking, dynamic and diverse business, now boasting a total complement of over 600 people.

Through our network of 25 UK offices, 5 in the Middle East and additional representation in South Africa, we offer a very wide range of professional property management, agency and consultancy services across the commercial, residential and rural sectors, for both investors and occupiers.

We strive to combine integrity and energy with experience and expertise. Our clients come to Cluttons because of the firm’s reputation; they stay because they receive a quality and style of personal service that they cannot find elsewhere.

The Cluttons' offices for the City and Docklands are in Wapping High Street and Horselydown Lane near Tower Bridge. Both provide a full range of professional services including residential sales, lettings and property management and cover the following areas: Bermondsey, Blackfriars, Borough, Canada Water, Rotherhithe, Shad Thames, South Bank, Waterloo, Canary Wharf, City, Isle of Dogs, Limehouse, Royal Docks and St Katharine Docks.

In 2010, as a sign of continued success, ongoing investment and commitment to property within the Docklands, the Wapping office relocated to the High Street where, along with the Tower Bridge agency office, they represent the best office locations on both sides of the River Thames.

In this area, a wide variety of property is available for sale or rental, ranging from prestigious penthouses with breathtaking views of the River Thames and Tower Bridge and secure parking, to Grade II Listed period houses steeped in character features, and warehouse style apartments with exposed brickwork, beams and timbers.

The first warehouse conversion to be redeveloped into apartments was Oliver's Wharf which was bought in 1972 for £100,000 and converted into 23 apartments. Today Oliver's Wharf is a landmark riverside development, known throughout the Docklands as one of the premier warehouse conversions.

Following the closure of London's docks in the 1960s, regeneration of the derelict area began in the 1980s when The London Docklands Development Corporations (LDDC) was created and the Isle of Dogs was earmarked an 'enterprise zone' offering tax allowances to both investors and developers. This led to a series of events beginning with the construction of a 12.2 million sq ft office block which is now the focal point of Canary Wharf. Next came City Airport, The Docklands Light Railway and then an underground extension of the A13 connecting drivers from London's city centre to Limehouse and the Isle of Dogs.

Some 20 years later, the area is almost unrecognisable, with high-rise office blocks consisting of many of the world's blue-chip companies evenly spread across Canary Wharf.

The Docklands is on the north bank of the River Thames next to Tower Bridge, and stretches as far as the Royal Docks, three miles downriver. Today, it is a bustling vibrant area with modern infrastructure, and home to the world's best-known financial capital, Canary Wharf.
