Please tell us about the good and bad aspects of living in your local area:
It’s a great place to live—there are supermarkets like ALDI and Sainsbury's nearby, and the station is very close too. The garbage area is kept very clean, and there are no bad odors. It’s also close to nearby parks, including Preston Park, making it an ideal place for raising children.
How has the building management responded to any problems or issues you have raised:
During the rental process, they were very considerate and accommodating, even proposing options such as a one-time rent payment. A concierge is available 24 hours a day and was quick to assist whenever issues arose, such as when my key card stopped working.
Please share one thing (or more) which you wish you had known before you moved in:
I would have appreciated having more detailed and clear information beforehand, such as photos showing the view from the apartment and the layout.
Manager's response5Hi Hajime, Thank you very much for your detailed and thoughtful review. We’re delighted to hear how much you’ve been enjoying your apartment and the wider community. It’s wonderful to know that the design of the building, along with the views and natural light from the large windows and terraces, has made such a positive impression. We’re also pleased that the shared spaces and ground-floor facilities have supported your day-to-day needs, including working from home. Your kind words about our concierge and team are greatly appreciated. We’re glad they’ve been able to assist you promptly and make your experience, especially arranging everything from overseas, as smooth and reassuring as possible. It’s great to hear that the location, nearby amenities, and green spaces like Preston Park have added to your experience as well. We also appreciate your feedback regarding clearer pre-move information and visuals, this is very helpful and something we will continue to improve. Thank you again for your recommendation and for choosing to be part of the community. If there’s ever anything further we can assist with, please don’t hesitate to get in touch. Warm regards, Your York & Elder Community Team

Please tell us about the good and bad aspects of living in your local area:
Fantastic location. Close to all the shops and just a short walk into Churchill Square and to the station which is perfect. Bus stops taking you into town is a 2 minute walk away too. Even though I back onto the station it’s very quiet when doors closed
How has the building management responded to any problems or issues you have raised:
I’ve had no issues myself but they respond quickly to any general issues and keep us all well informed
Please share one thing (or more) which you wish you had known before you moved in:
I can’t think of anything as I asked everything I needed to before I moved it but just go for it. It was the best decision I made
Manager's response5Hi Sarah, Thank you so much for taking the time to share such a thoughtful and positive review. We’re really pleased to hear that you’ve been enjoying your time with us over the past few months and that the apartment, facilities, and overall environment have met your expectations. Please tell us about the good and bad aspects of living in your local area:
You're rather spoilt living centrally here, the location is incredibly convenient for a number of reasons. Having lived in Brighton since 2011, The Lanes have always been one of my favourite parts of the city, and now living just a 5 minute walk from the North Laine is brilliant. You'll find some of the quirkiest independent shops around, as well as a whole host of practical ones. From shops selling musical instruments to socks, independent coffee shops and bakeries to comic books. There are countless little local cafes and eateries offering a wide range of foods from all over the world, whatever you're looking for, you'll find it here. Snoopers Paradise is an Aladdin's Cave of vintage and antique trinkets and I'd challenge anyone not to leave with at least something! Infinity Foods is a local organic supermarket with everything you could ever need, including the best organic sourdough bread, always sourcing delicious and exciting new produce from around the world while supporting local and seasonal suppliers. Brighton Station is a stone's throw from the building and you can be in London in an hour. London Road is a 2 minute walk with great transport links, a post office, chemists and supermarkets. Preston Park is an 8 minute walk and is a lovely area of greenery, very popular with runners, walkers and dog owners. Parking has never been an issue for us, whether using the nearby London Road Car Park or finding a space on the street outside. Traffic noise in the summer can be a bit overwhelming if you have your windows open, but the soundproofing is excellent and ensures we sleep very well at night!
How has the building management responded to any problems or issues you have raised:
I haven’t really had too many problems living here as the building is thankfully very well built! However, when I do email, my queries are always responded to on the same day, usually within a few hours. Maintenance issues are dealt with promptly with good communication. We have 2 cats so I like to be here whenever checks are carried out on the doors or fire alarms and the team are always accommodating around my availability. I always feel listened to, heard and respected, and any concerns I have had have been handled with care and professionalism.
Please share one thing (or more) which you wish you had known before you moved in:
My one and only quibble living here is probably the bar on Elder Place, which can be very loud in the summer months. Depending on what side of the building you live however, this wont be an issue for all apartments and is subject to your tolerance level for noise!
Manager's response5Hi Liv. T, WOW! Thank you so much for your wonderful 5-star review. It's great to hear that York & Elder is the best place that you have lived; and you love the property design and vibes! Delighted to read that you are embracing all of the fabulous events created for the community, as well as the "community jigsaw", pool table and our very own shuffleboard! Thank you for the kind words about the team, who will be delighted to read the reviews. "Thank you" for choosing York & Elder as your "home". Kind regards, Serena

Please tell us about the good and bad aspects of living in your local area:
Perfect location. 5-6 minute walk to the train station, 3-4 minute walk to the nearest bus station, 5-6 minute walk to a large Sainsbury’s. Several pubs, shops and restaurants around. Although it is really close to London Road, it is one street away so you don’t get that people crowd and anti-social behaviour around the building.
How has the building management responded to any problems or issues you have raised:
They are really quick to respond to any problems or issues raised, especially it is great in terms of maintenance. We haven’t had many issues but once we had it, it was very quickly resolved. Murdell from maintenance team was great and handled our issue the next day after it was raised successfully.
Please share one thing (or more) which you wish you had known before you moved in:
I didn’t think having a reception and a building management would be this useful and helpful but it really is once you need something.
Manager's response5Hi Baris, O, Thank you for your fabulous 5-star review, it's fantastic to learn that you find York & Elder a great place to live. It's great to hear that you are embracing the community and associated amenities, such as the Gym, cinema room and of course of games - and equally you find York & Elder to be in positioned in an amazing location. "Thank you" for choosing York & Elder as your "home". Kind regards, Serena

Please tell us about the good and bad aspects of living in your local area:
Living in this area has been genuinely lovely. Everything I need is within easy walking distance — Brighton Station, shops, cafés, and great places to grab food. It’s lively without feeling overwhelming, and I feel very safe walking around, even in the evenings!
How has the building management responded to any problems or issues you have raised:
Every time I’ve raised a question or needed help, the team have responded quickly and kindly. They’re professional but also warm, which makes a big difference. Even small things are handled promptly, and it gives me a lot of confidence and peace of mind. Thank you to the Management Team!
Please share one thing (or more) which you wish you had known before you moved in:
I wish I’d known earlier just how reassuring the safety and support here would feel. The 24/7 concierge and strong security make such a difference — especially for someone living alone. Also, parcels are kept safely, and moving in was much smoother than I expected.
Manager's response5Hi Juri, Thank you so much for taking the time to share such a thoughtful and detailed review. We’re genuinely delighted to hear that York & Elder has felt like home from day one, that’s exactly what we strive to create for our residents. We’re also glad the location and surrounding area have added to your experience, offering both convenience and a sense of safety. Creating a place where residents feel secure, comfortable, and truly at ease is incredibly important to us, so it’s great to hear that reflected in your experience. Thank you again for your recommendation and for highlighting what matters most to you, including sustainability features like recycling and access to green space, these are areas we continue to prioritise and develop. If there’s ever anything more we can do to enhance your experience, please don’t hesitate to reach out. We’re so pleased to have you as part of the York & Elder community.
