Description

This distinguished three-bedroom apartment lies on the lower ground floor of a smart Victorian building in Stockwell, south-west London. An open-plan kitchen and living space is filled with light from a box bay window, while a bedroom at the rear opens onto a private terrace with communal gardens beyond. The shops, bars and restaurants of Stockwell, Clapham and Brixton are all within easy reach.

The Tour

A short flight of steps descend to this apartment’s private entrance. Inside, a bright hallway leads to an expansive open-plan kitchen and living space, illuminated by a wide box bay window. A white metro-tiled splashback complements neat cabinetry with oak worktops, and there is a butler sink, a Bosch electric oven and a gas hob.

The principal bedroom has a box bay window and natural seagrass carpeting, and would also be suitable as a sitting room. Next door to this room is a smaller space that would suit use as a walk-in wardrobe. There are two additional bedrooms: one would make for a delightful study and has a glazed door to the private terrace.

The plan is completed by a bathroom with a bathtub and a separate shower room.

Outdoor Space

A peaceful private terrace at the rear is perfect for outdoor dining, or reclining with a favourite book. Residents also have access to a large communal garden.

The Area

The apartment is brilliantly located close to the shops, restaurants and pubs of Stockwell, Clapham and Brixton. The neighbourhood known as ‘Little Portugal’ for its large and diverse Portuguese-speaking community is less than 10 minutes’ walk from the house and has a very good selection of pubs and restaurants, notably the Canton Arms.

Brixton, a lively area known for its excellent food and bar scene, is within easy reach, where Brixton Village, Market Row and Acre Lane are all highly recommended destinations. The Ritzy Cinema, Electric Brixton and Brixton O2 Academy are much-loved institutions. The Department Store is grand renovated 1876 Bon Marche building that now houses collaborative workspaces, a Pure Vinyl record shop, a community Post Office and Canova Hall restaurant and bar.

The green spaces of Larkhall Park, Slade Green and Clapham Common are also nearby. The latter is Clapham Common is home to over 200 acres of parkland and three ponds, as well as a café and sports facilities.

Stockwell Underground station is a four-minute walk away, with the Northern and Victoria Lines providing quick access to central London. There are several buses that run into central London along Clapham and Brixton Roads.

Industry affiliations:

The Modern House is an estate agency that helps people live in more thoughtful and beautiful ways. We have been successfully selling Britain's finest modern architecture since 2005, representing design-led homes throughout the UK from our offices in central London.

The Modern House meets the growing demand for exceptional living spaces of all kinds, including flats, lofts, conversions, architects' own homes, new builds and period houses. Our name is inspired by FRS Yorke's celebrated book 'The Modern House' (1934), which introduced modernist architecture to a British audience.

We are excited by homes that pay attention to the timeless principles of modernism: space, light, materials, nature and decoration. Combined, we believe design can be a powerful force for good.
