Description

Melcombe Court is bordered to the south by Linear Park. Linear Park was created in the 1970s on the site of the old Somerset and Dorset Railway line (known to locals as the "Slow and Dirty"). This part of the S&D railway was opened on 20 July 1874 and connected Bath with Bournemouth. It was never a high speed line as its winter business was mainly carrying freight and local passenger traffic over the Mendips but, in the summer, it carried a considerable volume of Saturday holiday trains from the northern towns down to Bournemouth. Melcombe Court was built by C.H Beazer in 1975.
