A brief summary of the property's history:

Built in c. 1819-20, the first of four houses, by Richard Williamson, a well-established, prosperous Dublin merchant and manufacturer.
Bought from Williamson in 1820 by Randal McDonald Gibbons.
Four years later in 1824, Gibbons sold the house to John Hare a solicitor and land agent with a practice on Baggot Street. After his death in 1865, his estate sold the property to William Joseph Corrigan.
William Joseph Corrigan, a successful barrister, was the son of the first catholic to make a name for himself in Irish medicine, Sir Dominic Corrigan, after whom a disease known as "Corrigan's Pulse" is called. Elected five times president of the Royal College of Physicians of Ireland, an MP for the City of Dublin, he was also responsible for the building of Inniscorrig, one of Dalkey's landmark homes in 1844. In 1887, W.J. Corrigan's executors sold No. 25 to John Gordon.
John Gordon was called to the Bar in 1877 and became a Queen's Counsel in 1892. He was elected an MP in 1900 and became Attorney General in 1915 - 1916. He resided in No. 25 for 34 years.
The next owners of the property were James Augustine Murnaghan and his wife Alice Davy. James Murnaghan became a barrister in 1903 and was Professor of Jurisprudence Roman and international law in N.U.I between 1910-24. He was subsequently appointed a Supreme Court judge and became chairman of the National Gallery of Ireland in 1962. He was a renowned and avid art collector. He died at the age of 92 in 1973 having assembled one of Ireland's most impressive private art collections.
His widow Alice continued to reside in their home surrounded by the valuable art collection however its reputation reached the Dublin underworld and in particular Martin Cahill, better known as Dublin's crime boss The General, who arranged for the house to be broken into in December 1988 by 3 men in balaclavas. Alice Murnaghan and her companion were held overnight, but were released unharmed the next morning having been served tea and biscuits by their captors during the night! Some but not all of the paintings were recovered 8 months later. Alice Murnaghan lived 80 years in the house until her death in 1999 at the age of 103.
Alice Murnaghan's executors put the property up for sale and it was sold again in 2002. Shortly after its acquisition, the property underwent a significant and sensitive refurbishment programme. It was bought by the current owners in 2015 who did further conservation-led work to adapt it as a modern family home.

GARDEN: Delightful town garden bordered by the original stone walls and laid out in lawn with mature plants and trees with a sandstone patio area, ideal for al fresco dining and entertaining. Steps lead down to a sunken courtyard with attractive painted M.C Escher-inspired mural of Dublin painted by Lucretia Moroni, descendant of Giovanni Battista Moroni (1520-78) whose work hangs in the National Gallery of Ireland.
