Almancil is the heart of the Golden Triangle
The town of Almancil is just a 15 minute drive from Faro airport and is probably as well known as the two very exclusive resorts of Algarve just because of it's location and it's closeness to them. Both Vale do Lobo and Quinta do Lago are located just 10km from the town of Almancil and are well established developments offering luxury accommodation, up market restaurants and above all both resorts are a haven for golfers.
Almancil is a busy town with several banks, shops and also offers a good selection of restaurants.
The Stadium of Algarve, built to host some of the games for the European Football Championships of 2004, is also close by.
In the neighboring village of São Lourenço, the church is well worth a visit. The São Lourenço Church dates back to 1730 and its walls are decorated with the characteristic blue tiles (azulejos) which tell the story of its patron saint. There is also a good collection of 17th and 18th century statues in the church and the sacristy also houses a fine chest with carved decoration. The Centro Cultural of São Lourenço is also worth visiting. This centre has been established for many years and is host to regular art exhibitions and music events.
There are many excellent beaches near Almancil such as Praia do Garrao and Praia do Ancão - both with some great beach restaurants. And the Ria Formosa Natural Park begins it's stretch to the East here.
