Historic Middleton-on-Sea. The development of modern Middleton began after WW1 when Captain H Rowlands S Coldicott purchased considerable parts of farmland with a plan to create not just a residential estate but also a village community. The private sea-lane estate remains a quiet sought after residential area today and benefits from both direct access to the sea and closeness to the local shops and amenities. There are a number of pretty thatched properties located in the area and every property is unique in design.
Property in Middleton-on-Sea. Middleton and Felpham property have a wide variety of property on offer from a small retirement flats, bungalows and larger houses with direct access to the sea. At low tide our sandy Middleton-on-Sea beach stretches from Littlehampton to Bognor Regis and is a firm favourite for local dog walkers and those who enjoy the fresh air and tranquillity of the sea. Elmer Sands a mile East of Middleton is a particular beauty spot, enhanced by the interesting rock islands that were built as a sea defence 24years ago. They create an excellent family beach area for all ages with ideal conditions for swimming, beginner water sports, beach games and rock pools.
Shopping. Middleton-by-Sea may be small but it has a very decent range of shopping options and local amenities to cater for your everyday needs including coffee shops, a post office, butchers, general store, newsagents, fish & chip shops, hairdressers, gift shops, florist and an excellent choice of public houses.
Felpham Recreation. As well as a few popular beachfront cafes, Felpham has a Leisure Centre with swimming pool and large equipped gym. There are also public tennis courts next to the Promenade. The Felpham and Middleton Horticultural Society run regular meetings at St. Mary's Centre in the village, there's a fantastic sailing club and Felpham and Middleton both run Art groups should you wish to nurture your creative instincts.
Famous connections. William Blake the famous poet and artist lived in Felpham from 1800-1803, writing many of his famous poems whilst living there including the words to the hymn 'Jerusalem'. The Blake Society has recently bought William Blake's cottage so it may be opened to the public and people can walk and sit in his garden and rooms that he was once in.
Schools in Middleton-on-Sea. Bishop Tufnell Primary School is situated between both Middleton and Felpham, and the Felpham Community College caters for secondary students. There is a day nursery for pre-School children in Middleton.
Travel Links. Our closest rail station is Barnham, which will take you under 10 mins to get to by car (3.7 miles). From there you have direct routes to London Victoria taking 1hr 22m, Gatwick Airport will take 48mins, Southampton in 1hour and Brighton in 40mins. There are also stations at Bognor Regis, Littlehampton and Arundel.
