With years of prestigious awards in California and other wine competitions to its credit, Alger Vineyards utilizes certified organic and biodynamic methods that honor the character and sustainability of its 61.75 acres in Tehama and Shasta counties. At roughly 2,500 feet elevation and with deep volcanic soils, approximately 32 acres of vines in this Manton Valley AVA are devoted to 26 acres of Syrah and Petite Sirah, with another 6 acres hosting 10 other varieties of grapes. Water sources include deeded senior ditch irrigation rights to 22 miner's inches, along with an agricultural well. Pumping out of a stocked pond of approximately 6 acre-feet is used to provide organic matter to the vines on watering days. The vineyard is home to a 4 bedroom, 2.5 bath 2,900 sq.ft. main home built in 2004, and an older 2 bedroom, 1 bath foreman's/caretaker's house. Additionally, the property features a 1,014 sq.ft. second-floor wine tasting room with panoramic views over the vineyard, above a climate-controlled wine storage space. The vineyard is approved for a winery of up to 25,000 cases of wine per year, and zoning allows for various agritourism options, food services, weddings, special events, and farm labor housing, among other potential uses. Manton is a small town of approximately 350 population, sitting at 2,000 ft elevation, not far from Lassen Volcanic National Park with its 500,000 visitors a year, mostly in summer months. The Tehama County seat of Red Bluff (pop. 15,000) is 32 miles west of Alger Vineyards, where Interstate 5 crosses over the Sacramento River, half-way between Redding (pop. 95,000) and Chico (pop. 100,000).
