The Irish Government some years ago selected Sligo as a Gateway or Growth Centre, which will guarantee further development in the future. Development: Over the past 10 years Sligo has grown significantly with the Rockwood and JFK Parade schemes providing rejuvenation in the City Centre. More is to come, with the development of the Buttermarket multi-storey car park and shopping mall which will further enhance the city?s reputation as a shopping destination. With Sligo?s (bypass) Inner Relief Road completed, pedestrianisation of the city centre will follow, greatly enhancing the Sligo experience for residents and visitors alike. Outside Sligo City, the next biggest town is Tubbercurry, located on the N17 Roadway, 20 miles south of Sligo. This is a thriving county town with much to offer for business or leisure purposes. Knock Airport is just 15 minutes from Tubbercurry.
