We were looking for a property as first-time buyers and searched across Maidenhead, Henley, Marlow and Windsor for over two years before finding 4 Cox Cottages at the end of 2024. We quickly put in an offer as we fell in love with the property, its cottage charm and character, the spacious garden, the quiet lane surrounded by trees and greenery, the Cox Green area with strong schools, the community feel, and what we felt was great value for money for a three-bedroom property with a driveway, garden access to the driveway/road, and the ability to extend and add further value.

We purchased the house in March 2025 and have spent significant time improving and modernising it whilst retaining its original character. Upstairs, we replaced the old carpets with high-quality thick carpets and underlay, painted every room, and upgraded the bathroom to give it a more modern feel. The windows were already in great condition and did not require replacement.

In the master bedroom, we painted and skimmed the ceilings, installed panelling, added a built-in wardrobe which we will leave once sold, and converted an old cupboard into an open walk-in style closet. We feel the room balances modern touches with the cottage feel that originally attracted us to the house.

We also modernised the staircase and living areas by repainting the banister black to tie in with other black accents throughout the living and dining spaces. We installed a new vertical radiator and added hanging cupboards in the dining area, which we are also happy to leave for the new owners if desired.

The kitchen required the most work. The original terracotta tiles suited the character of the house but were very old, cracked, and difficult to maintain, so we installed wood flooring over the top, sanded and treated the worktops, and painted the cupboards. We feel the house now offers a modern bathroom and kitchen whilst still retaining the charm and warmth of a cottage property.

The property is currently the perfect size for us as a couple with no children, but with two additional bedrooms there is ample space for one or two children whilst still having the flexibility for a home office.

The loft is in realtively good condition compared to most 'boarded-only' lofts and includes carpeting, a boiler, a Velux window, electricity, internet access, and lighting. The previous owners used it as an office space. Whilst it could benefit from some further improvement, it offers excellent potential for storage or office use. Our neighbours recently completed a loft conversion with a dormer, demonstrating the potential to extend further. There also appears to be good potential to extend at the rear due to the generous garden size.

We are genuinely sad to leave the house, but due to a change in work circumstances we unfortunately need to move sooner than anticipated. We hope the next owners enjoy the house and the area as much as we have.
