We’ve updated our Privacy Policy 

To make sure you have a clear and transparent understanding of how we use your personal information, we regularly review and update our Privacy Policy.

Most of the recent changes in September 2026 have been to add clarity and reflect updates or launches of new services or functionality on our platforms. Here are the key ones that could affect you.

Changes from 18th September 2026

  • Advertising audiences: we have added that Rightmove may create lookalike audiences to help show relevant content and adverts on our platforms.
  • Cookies and tracking: we have added more detail about how cookies and similar technologies support advertising on Rightmove, where you have given consent.
  • Value analytics and audience insights: we have added information about how limited personal information may be used to help member estate agents understand the effectiveness of their Rightmove membership, with any shared analysis aggregated so it does not identify individual users.
  • Advertising partners: we have added that limited advertising-related information may be shared with Ozone, our advertising partner, to help deliver, measure and improve adverts shown on Rightmove.
  • Tenancy services: we have added that members may provide us with personal information about landlords, tenants or guarantors when arranging or managing a tenancy.
  • Mortgage in principle applications: we have updated the financial service section to cover just the data points required by the lender Natwest for the purpose of the Mortgage in Principle Application.
  • Saving mortgage in principle applications: we have added that, where the feature is available, you may be able to save your mortgage in principle application and return to it later.

Changes from 11th September 2006 (notified on 11th September)

  • Conversational Search: we have updated to include that:
    • conversational search prompts, responses and logs will now be linked to persistent or account level identifiers which helps us improve our services and for monitoring and quality assurance purposes.
    • we use data collected to personalise your experience on Rightmove.
    • we may log and review your use of AI features for service quality, safety, troubleshooting and improvement, using safeguards to minimise personal data and keeping logs only for a limited period.
  • Pixel Tracking: where you have consented to tracking cookies, we may use pixel tracking (including Meta pixel  tracking) and similar tracking technologies on our website to help us measure the effectiveness of our advertising, understand how people interact with our site, and show more relevant adverts on platforms such as Meta which includes Facebook and Instagram.
  • Targeted advertising on social media platforms: Rightmove may use your email address, in a securely hashed format, to help show you more relevant advertising on third-party social media platforms such as Facebook and Instagram. Meta uses the hashed information to check for a matching account and, where there is a match, may show you Rightmove advertising relating to property services or content. This helps Rightmove promote relevant products and services, measure advertising effectiveness, and reduce irrelevant marketing, and you can opt out of Rightmove marketing or manage Meta advertising settings at any time.

  • June 2026

    • Data protection complaints: updated to include a link to our Complaints Policy.
    • Property data: clarified that property data (such as images, floorplans, prices etc.) alone is generally not considered personal data unless it is combined with other information which relates it to an identified or identifiable individual.
    • Push notifications: updated to include use of push notifications where you choose to have these.
    • PEPs and Sanction Checks: updated to state that where member letting agents are using our services to conduct PEPs and Sanctions checks on their landlord’s, tenants or guarantors,  they will provide us additional personal data in order to perform the checks.
    • Recorded calls between you and our member agents: updated and clarified that call recordings and transcriptions may also be used for analytical purposes and to provide insights to our members on the recorded call.
    • Mortgage in Principle: updated to reflect save and return functionality where that feature is made available to you as part of your application.
    • 3rd party advertising: we have updated  our section to include the programmatic advertising platform used by us and advertisers  to provide tailored adverts if you have consented to their use.
    • Handling multiple referencing requests:  where we receive multiple referencing requests for the same applicant, we may contact any previous member agents on our records with whom the applicant has held a tenancy to help prevent fraud.
    • Commercial property listings: when you visit our commercial property pages or listings on Rightmove and provide consent via the cookie banner, we will collect your IP address and share this with a third-party service to help us identify the company domain and company name linked to that IP address. We use this information to help us and our commercial member agents understand which organisations are viewing commercial property listings and to help assess advertising performance.

  • March 2026

    • Data protection complaints: added in a new section to cover how we handle data protection complaints.
    • Recorded calls between you and our member agents: AI is utilised to transcribe and extract insights from recorded calls in order to support training, monitoring, and the enhancement of services for both us and our members.
    • Customer services: when you correspond with our customer services team via email, we use AI to triage your query and to help us better understand and respond to your query.
    • Google Ads conversion measurement: added in that we use Google Ads conversion measurement tools (including Google Ads Enhanced Conversions) to help us understand how effective our advertising is and to improve it.
    • Mortgage in Principle: updated to reflect any new lenders we may be working with.
    • Multi applicant lead form for tenants: if available, the lead applicant can invite household members to complete the rental enquiry form and obtain the household members permission to send enquiries for other properties on behalf of the household. Household members may update their permissions anytime in their My Rightmove account. 
    • Online agent valuation: if you have asked one of our member estate agents for an agent online valuation and agreed to targeting and tracking cookies, the member estate agent will be alerted when you access the agent online valuation. This notification helps the member estate agent to better coordinate any follow-up conversations with you.
    • 3rd party advertising: we have included details of universal ID solutions which advertisers use to provide tailored adverts if you have consented to their use.
    • Tracked property alerts: updated to reflect the types of email updates you will receive if you set up a tracked property alert (e.g. valuation of a property you are tracking, updates to the tracked property and the local area).

  • February 2026

    • Where we make AI Conversational Search tool available to you, we have  included a section on how we process personal data.
    • Where you have consented to have a credit check undertaken as part of looking to rent a property, we have provided further clarification on the processing by the credit reference agencies.

  • December 2025

    • Expanded on the types of personal data being processed where you apply for a job vacancy at Rightmove and the sources of the job application data.
    • Added that you may be required to provide a mobile number where MFA is either required to access certain services in Your My Rightmove account or where you have enabled optional MFA on your My Rightmove account. This will depend on your chosen method of verification (SMS MFA or Auth App MFA). You may choose to provide an email address for account recovery purposes.
    • Where you are undergoing tenant referencing (either as a tenant or a guarantor), we will ask for employment type (i.e. whether you are self employed etc.) as part of the referencing process.
    • Added that we may transcribe calls where they are recorded, and expanded the purpose for recording and transcribing calls to assist with service improvement.
    • Added that some members may share personal data with us for the purpose of identifying retention opportunities.
    • Added that where you request services from our mortgage broker partners via our platforms, we will, where applicable,  share relevant  information from your use of the mortgage calculator on Rightmove (such as price, term etc)   and  any decision on property lending you received via our partner mortgage lender as part of your enquiry.  This helps our mortgage broker partners to respond to your enquiry, provide assistance on next steps and explore options with other lenders.
    • We may share certain personal information, such as hashed email addresses, with Google Ads to improve the accuracy of conversion tracking and advertising effectiveness. This data is processed securely and is only used for the purpose of matching conversions to advertising campaigns. You retain full control over your data and can manage your preferences or opt out at any time using our cookie consent mechanism.
    • Simplified and updated our data retention periods to show when we may need to retain data for longer.
    • If you visit our offices listed in our Consumer Privacy policy, we operate CCTV inside certain areas of our premises to help ensure the personal safety and security of our staff, visitors, and property and for the purpose of crime prevention. Images and recordings captured by our CCTV systems may be used for security monitoring, incident investigation, and, where necessary, shared with law enforcement or regulatory authorities.
    • Updated the types of third party providers we work with to provide the services to include AI providers.
    • Updated  that we use AI:
      • to identify areas we can improve our services
      • for training, monitoring and quality assurance purposes
      • to enable you to restyle images of a property listing to help you visualise how a property could look

  • September 2025

    • Where a user enquires about a rental property, we may ask for additional information about other tenants or household members they plan to live with in order to give our member agent information to help them assess the rental enquiry.
    • Expanded when we may share details of vulnerabilities with relevant providers. When you enquire about, receive a quote or purchase certain services via our platforms or via a call to us (broadband, TV media packages, utility provider) we may collect data on vulnerabilities and if you disclose this to us and we will share this with:
      • the relevant broadband or TV provider where required for quality assurance purposes.
      •  the relevant utility provider where a quotation is provided or a sale is made. 
    • Where you have submitted a Mortgage In Principle application, you can now save the submitted application and append a property check to it.
    • Where we provide the functionality, give users the option to:
      •  visualise how a property listed on our platforms could look using AI.
      • understand how a property’s potential to be extended and how much it could cost to renovate a property.
    • Updated our Use of AI section to cover that:
      • we use AI to help us predict when you might require our services in order to provide timely communication and personalised experience on our platforms.
      • we use anonymised behavioural data to help train and build our own predictive models.
    • Further clarified how we use property data and historical property data to assist Our Members to predict trends, anticipate supply and demand, provide market insights and to measure property market strength in order to support their operations.
    • Clarified that our members may use CRM systems to process and store enquiries that you send to them via our platform.  This helps them to respond to and manage your enquiry.

  • June 2025

    • If you are a supplier or prospective supplier to Rightmove, we have included personal information we process, why we process and our lawful basis.
    • If you request a remote online remote valuation from our member agents we will notify the agent when you have viewed their valuation only where you have consented to targeting and tracking cookies.
    • If you start a remote valuation and upload images, but do not submit the valuation request we will retain the images you have uploaded for 7 days. When You submit the online agent valuation request the images will be retained for 2 years and 7 days.
    • We have signposted where you can find and access our employee privacy policy and our members privacy policy.
    • Where we make collaboration features available, we have highlighted how data is collected and used.
    • We have updated how we handle your information when you enter into competitions we run.
    • Clarified that where a member acquires another member, we may transfer enquiries sent to that member, over to the new acquiring member.
    • Clarified that we may retain data for a further year for disaster recovery purposes.
    • Clarified that where a Right to be Forgotten is completed, we retain the log data for 180 days after the process has been completed.
    • Added that we may share data with a competent authority as part of an investigation they are conducting and where there is a valid lawful basis to do so.

  • March 2025

    • Where you operate in a business capacity and are not a member of Rightmove (‘Prospective Member’, we have covered how we collect and process your personal data.
    • When applying for a mortgage in principle, you may be given the option to apply for a Mortgage in Principle for a specific property being advertised on our platforms and we will pre-populate the application with the data of the property you have selected.
    • When requesting an online valuation for your property, you may be given the option to provide additional information about your property to assist our members in valuing your property.
    • We have clarified when you request a valuation of your property, we will share both the valuation request and the names of the agents you selected, with the agents you requested the valuation from.
    • Where using our mortgage calculator, you will be asked additional information to help improve your journey and experience.
    • Where there is functionality offered for you book an appointment to view a property, we will either create a calendar appointment in our members own email system (via calendar software) or our members own booking system in order  you can book and manage your own bookings.
    • Where you make use of our tenant referencing services, where required, we will conduct verification and identify checks to comply with our legal obligations.  This may result in collecting or processing government issued ID, and checking whether you feature on a politically exposed persons or sanctions list.

  • December 2024

    • Where you make use of our tenant referencing services, we have clarified the following:
      • when you apply for an insurance policy through us,  we rely on ‘insurance’ as our condition of processing special category data or criminal offence data.
      • when you wish to make use of utility offerings, we may share your personal information with a utility management company for the purposes of administering utilities at the rental property for Your tenancy.
    • Updated our definition of members to include professional advisers as one of our customer types.
    • Added how we process your data if you use our new feature, Renters Checklist.
    • Clarified that users of platforms may provide us personal information of other parties involved when using our services or making enquiries to us.
    • Added that we may retain some audit and log trail for up to 1 year for security purposes.
    • Clarified that we use tracking pixels in some communications for the purpose of analysing and improving our communications with you.
    • Where you make use of a new feature such as remote valuation request, we may request and process additional data for the purpose of our member being able to provide you a remote valuation.
    • Added that we may use  telephone call transcription providers where required.

  • September 2024

    • Added in more detail about services that can be made available to you via our platforms and the data being processed, such as:
      • booking or requesting property viewings with our members (estate agents, property developers etc).
      • enabling you to identify places of interest to you to show you travel times from properties you are viewing.
      • providing you access to our renovation calculator to help you understand how renovations can impact the value of a property.
    • Clarified that users can see similar properties sold by our members on our platforms.  This  help sellers and buyers perform research on our members and understand the local market.
    • Clarified that where your letting agent uses our tenancy and rental services:
      • they need to form their own lawful basis for sharing referencing information with third parties.
      • they are provided visibility on the progression of insurance and tenant related services regarding their clients in order they can provide the services.
    • To help give potential home movers insights into a property development, estate agent  or developer we have:
      • clarified that our members (estate agents, letting agents, property developers etc.) may publish testimonials or reviews from their clients on our platforms.
      • added that reviews of property developments that have been published on the HomeViews platforms are shared with and may be published on Rightmove for the property developments they relate to.

  • June 2024

    • Where you use our tenancy and rental services, you can provide additional information to receive reminders and notifications relevant to your move such as postal redirects and broadband options.
    • Clarified information we use for profiling activities, such as your activity on our site, information you tell us e.g. whether you are a landlord, your property ownership etc. and how we use this to help our members manage your property enquiries more effectively.
    • Clarified requirements for ID when exercising your rights to ensure we are only acting on the instructions of the data subject.
    • Signposted how you can report a suspected data breach.

  • March 2024

    • We have recently acquired HomeViews Platform Limited, a resident review site, and have referred to their Privacy and Cookie Policies in our Privacy Policy.
    • At a high level, we have outlined where we may use AI (and similar technologies) to help improve our platforms, services and operations.  However, we do not use AI to make any automated decisions which could have a legal or similar effect on you.
    • When enquiring about a rental property, where relevant we may ask additional questions to help our members assess your enquiry and suitability such as whether you have a guarantor in place, type of pet and number of under 18’s that will be moving into the property.
    • Where you have downloaded the IOS or Android Rightmove App, we have referenced the App Data Storage Policy which covers what data we store and why.

  • December 2023

    • Ability to add saved properties to your enquiry list helping you have a better overview of the status of all your property enquiries.
    • If you are undergoing tenant referencing or progressing a tenancy application, where made available you can see visibility of what stage in the tenant referencing process you are at and can progress your tenant refence so that you can be kept up to date on your tenant referencing journey.
    • Our members can now add notes on the status of an enquiry to help them manage the enquiry.
    • Where you interact with broadband quotes on our site, we use a unique identifier to enables us to identify attributed sales.
    • If you contact a mortgage broker via our site, they may share with us details of any mortgage protection quotes or policies that were taken to help us improve our services.
    • Where data is processed in the United States of America we may rely on the UK-US data bridge for transfers in accordance with UK GDPR and ICO guidance to ensure the continued protection of your data.

  • September 2023

    • Updated our Tenant and Guarantor Referencing section to include:
      • that we may collect data on vulnerabilities you disclose to us. This is to support you and improve our services to you and we will share this with insurance providers where an insurance sale is made and where your consent is obtained.
      • where you start or complete a quote for Home Contents and Liability Insurance, we will send you an email reminding you of the quote/ or to complete the quote.
    • Updated our Financial Services section to include additional information we collect if you request assistance from a mortgage broker following your mortgage in principle application.

  • June 2023

    • Highlighted that we customise our direct marketing communications with you based on your use
      of our platforms to ensure a more personalised experience.
    • Clarified that some email correspondence we may retain for longer or shorter time periods than
      our standard 24 months depending on requirements.
    • Clarified we may contact you for market research purposes to help improve our site and services.
    • Highlighted that we provide our members updates on properties to help them meet their legal and
      regulatory requirements.
    • Clarified that our members may provide us your information when they are using our services to:
    • generate supporting evidence for a property valuation you have requested. This is in order
      they can provide the valuation to you.
    • Create a tenancy agreement and take payment for a property you are looking to rent, they
      will provide us details of the person paying the deposit and the deposit certificates.
    • Where you have consented to personalisation (targeting and tracking) cookies we will notify the
      member when you access their supporting evidence for a property valuation you have requested
      from them.
    • for tenant referencing services, we clarified we share contact details of landlords and referees with
      landlords and letting agents for the purpose of performing their own reference checks on the
      tenant and verifying the reference.

  • March 2023

    • We have included a summary of our privacy policy to help highlight the key ways in which we use
      your personal information
    • If you are located outside the UK but within the EU, we have included contact details of our EU
      representative should you prefer to contact them in the first instance
    • We have highlighted that we may identify your activity, your actions taken on our site, your home
      moving status, properties you are advertising and their property status. This is to help us and our
      members identify services you are likely to require, for training purposes and to customise your
      experience of our site and our communications with you.

  • December 2022

    • When enquiring about a rental property, where you are provided the option, you can consent to and request a credit check and reference is conducted and shared with the agent whom you are enquiring about a rental property with. This can help improve and speed up your application.
    • Where telephone calls are recorded between us and our members, we may also process them for the purpose of fulfilling our contract with our member agents and developers. This is to establish the existence of facts in relation to contracts and services provided.
    • Highlighted that where you request a property valuation from our members, we will transfer this request to the members you have selected so they can contact you to arrange a valuation of your property.
    • Highlighted that our member agents may use our systems to store enquiries they have received from other sources (other than via Rightmove) in order they can manage all their enquiries in one central place.
    • Highlighted where we send non -marketing email communications, we analyse open rates and click through information to improve our communications to you.
    • Where you operate as a business, we may be provided information from publicly available sources which help us contact you about our services in a business capacity only.
