Fishponds is a part of Bristol that's definitely on the up. There's a cosmopolitan feel to the area, with coffee shops and bars lining the high street, and some exciting investment being made in this part of the city. Nevertheless, it's still affordable, making it popular with first time buyers attracted by the Victorian properties and 1930s semi-detached homes. There are also some new developments at Scholars Chase, Frenchay Park and St Mathias Hospital.

Transport links are great in this part of town. The A432 runs through Fishponds and links to the M32 and the ring road. The M4 and M5 are close by too. There are various bus routes through the area, and the Bristol to Bath Railway Path offers a safe cycling route.

There are green spaces aplenty to explore with the kids or the dog, including Oldbury Court Estate, Fishponds Park and Eastville Park, and there's a wide range of 'good' primary and secondary schools and independent options.

Shirehampton is only seven miles from Bristol city centre but still retains a village feel, and is still referred to as a village by many locals. It has extremely good links to the M4 and M5 motorways, and the city centre is accessible via the A4, as well as by bus or via the local train station.

There's a very good range of well priced property in the area, from period terraces to semi-detached and large detached modern homes. A good choice of primary and secondary schools also adds to Shirehampton's attractions.

Southville and Bedminster are booming. Close to the attractions of the harbour and walking distance to Bristol city centre, the area also has some very good schools, attractive period terraced houses and smart flats. And don't forget the great shopping, pubs and restaurants.

There are some lovely parks in the area, many with children's play areas. Bedminster has a city farm and Southville, its arts venue, the Tobacco Factory.

While you can walk into the city centre, if you prefer to cycle, a cycle path runs between Bedminster and the city centre. The area is served by various bus routes, and if you're keen to get further afield, there are two stations here on the Bristol to Exeter railway line. Bristol Temple Meads is close by too, with train services to London, Cardiff, Leeds, Edinburgh and many more destinations.
