    Richard Bushnell - Director 
    Richard has lived and worked in beautiful North Devon for most of his life, having built and sold a successful insurance brokerage, he retains a financial services company and develops property. Acquiring Chequers was the natural progression and having bought and sold property, he understands from the client perspective the stresses and strain of the house sale process and aims through Chequers to make the journey from valuation to completion as simple as possible. Out of work Richard is currently renovating a thatched farmhouse project and has two teenage boys, he enjoys cycling and rugby and is involved in Barnstaple business circles.

    I joined Chequers Estate Agents in June 2021 after working for six years at an alternative agent in Barnstaple. I was delighted to join Chequers and I am passionate about providing excellent customer experiences for all their property needs.  

    I am a determined and motivated team leader here in Barnstaple, looking to achieve the best in everything that I do and I look forward to the opportunity of working with many more homeowners, investors and first-time buyers in the future.

    Having lived in the area all of my life I have a wealth of knowledge of the County. I live on my parent's dairy and sheep farm in the Devon rolling countryside and have had my own flock of rare breed sheep for many years. In my spare time, I am a very active member of the National Federation of Young Farmers.

    Toby Dowding - Senior Valuer / Sales Negotiator
    Toby joined Chequers in April 2024 and has a wealth of estate agency experience and local knowledge spanning over 20 years, helping clients buy and sell a variety of properties, ranging from one bed apartments to multi-million-pound dream homes! 

    Toby's attraction to joining Chequers Estate Agents, was the friendly, personal, and professional approach to helping clients, from the initial instruction right through to completion day! 

     Toby lives locally where his two children were raised and enjoys everything North Devon has to offer. This includes the gorgeous rolling countryside and pretty villages, stunning coastlines and fabulous beaches, where you will often see him walking his dog called Ash!

    Kate Worner - Sales Negotiator / Administrator
    Kate joined Chequers Estate Agents in 2021 to assist with all things admin and accounts and has grown into a role to assist the valuers and has started to take on some of her own properties and assists with viewings. She is passionate about client care and helping others to find the right property for them and is always at the end of the phone.

    Kate lives locally with her family and enjoys spending time walking the dog through the surrounding countryside and beaches.

    Teresa Beakhouse - Office Administrator 
    After completing an apprenticeship in a local estate agent and receiving her BTEC in customer service, Teresa joined Chequers Estate Agents in 2012 as an office administrator and soon become a valued member of the team. Now a hard-working mum of three, Teresa thrives in being busy and is always happy to help with day-to-day enquiries and enjoys the process of putting properties onto the market and meeting new buyers.
