    We are an independently owned company of Estate Agents specialising in residential property Sales and Lettings. Peter Joy has been operating since 1997 but many of the team have been in Estate Agency for far longer than that.

    With offices in Nailsworth and Stroud and extensive knowledge of both the local area and Gloucestershire generally we are ideally placed to help you with your property requirements. From period cottages to new build, we offer a wide portfolio of properties for sale and to let in both town and village locations.

    Why are you called Peter Joy?

    The Agency is named after the founder, Peter Joy. A successful Estate Agent with a track record of excellence, Peter started Peter Joy in Stroud in 1997 after becoming disillusioned with corporate agency and its focus on revenue rather than the client. It was an immediate success and he expanded, joining forces with Philippa to open a second office in Nailsworth. Sadly, Peter died unexpectedly not long after this. The team here are proud to continue working in his name, to the same exacting, customer focused standards that Peter originally envisioned.

    Ask yourself the following questions to help narrow down your search.

    It may be necessary to compromise later on but for now, the clearer your requirements, the easier it will be to focus on suitable properties.

    Key factors for consideration:

    • Decide on your budget. Make sure you have a clear idea on affordability. If you need a mortgage, get an agreement in principal from a lender before you make your offer. It'll make you more appealing to your vendor if you're ready to proceed.

    What's the most surprising fact about you? My Mum used to date Paul Kossoff from the band Free, and I'm named after the song 'My brother Jake'.

    Describe your perfect Sunday. Early dog walk, then poached eggs and avocado on toast with my latest vinyl acquisition playing in the background.

    What's the best piece of advice you've ever been given? Sleep on it - you very rarely have to make an important decision on the spot. Particularly relevant, as I can be a bit impulsive!

      You may be aware we had been searching for a house in the area for over a year, and during that time we had contact with, I think, every estate agent in Stroud. We were actually hoping to be able to buy a house through Peter Joy, because we'd had such a good experience in comparison with the other agencies. That we were able to was partly a question of luck, obviously, but we were very happy with the experience.

      A couple of things stood out for us. Everybody we had contact with was very professional on every occasion. For example, matters with potential to put off buyers were always brought up immediately, which was important to us because we had to come up from London for most of the viewings. A couple of other estate agents failed to mention a restrictive covenant that would have prevented us buying the property, and the sale of the property's garden to housebuilders.

      The second thing that stood out was the effort to shepherd the transaction through the difficulties that always occur in these things rather than leaving the buyer and seller to fend for ourselves via our solicitors.

      We were impressed with the whole team but we'd like to extend particular thanks to Charlie, Jake and Simon for driving us round, showing us the area, talking about the state of the market, helping us out and just generally going beyond the call of duty.
