      Our approach to selling property has been refined over many years. It provides an effective and stress-free process that will deliver the best possible sale for your property.
      If you are thinking of selling your property, we'll be very happy to visit and give you a report on market conditions, as well as an initial no-obligation appraisal of your home.
      You have to provide a Home Report to show anyone who is genuinely interested in buying your property: this is a legal requirement. A Home Report has three compulsory features: A Single Survey and Valuation, an Energy Report and a Property Questionnaire. We can advise you on the best platforms or firms to use to create your Home Report. Alternatively, we can arrange for a Home Report to be carried out and produced on your behalf.
      We will give you honest, well-informed advice on the best way to sell your property, and we will create a bespoke marketing strategy for you. We'll then prepare the material that will be used to market your property. This step involves the commissioning of high-quality photography of your home and the production of floor plans. You'll be able to choose from a number of proven brochure styles. There is also the opportunity to have a video of your property made. Your property will be placed on our website, which attracts an average of 166,000 visits a month and is linked to key property portals such as Rightmove, OnTheMarket.com and TheLondonOffice.co.uk.
      When your property is launched to market, a For Sale board will go up and viewings will start. If you are unable to attend, a member of staff will conduct viewings on your behalf. Our database contains the details of over 8,000 active buyers. We will directly contact all relevant buyers with details of your property. We can send out information through our Facebook, Instagram and Twitter accounts. We can also advertise your property at competitive rates in national newspapers and magazines
      We will keep in touch at every stage of the selling process. You will receive regular reports from your selling agent. These will include feedback from viewings and details of the follow-up contacts we make with potential buyers.
      Our experienced team will conduct negotiations on your behalf. We will use our expertise to meet your objectives for the sale and will liaise closely with you to agree a strategy to get you the very best deal. We will keep you informed and up-to-date with every new development during the negotiation process. You'll be able to call your selling agent at any time to discuss how things are going.
      During the final stage of the process we will be in contact with your solicitor to help facilitate the conclusion of your property sale (if required). We will remain actively involved all the way through to the handover stage to help make the entire process as smooth as possible for you.

    Chris Hall MRICS
    Director, Country House Sales

    Chris joined Rettie & Co. in 2005 to head up its new Rural and Professional Services Department. He is actively involved in the agency; sales, purchases and valuation of rural property throughout Scotland. Chris is a graduate of agriculture from Newcastle University. Before joining Rettie & Co. he worked at Langley-Taylor in 1987, and qualified as a chartered surveyor in 1991, before being appointed a partner in 1995.

    Andrew Smith MRICS
    Director, Country House Sales

    Andrew qualified as a Chartered Surveyor in 1988. Since then he has concentrated on the sale of country houses across Scotland. Having worked for Savills and Strutt & Parker he joined Rettie & Co in 2013 as Director of Country House sales. Andrew lives in the East Lothian countryside and has sold houses throughout the country over the last thirty years. Using his extensive local knowledge, Andrew utilises his experience to advise clients on the marketing and sale of all types of property across East Lothian.

    Alastair Houlden MRICS
    Director, Country House Sales

    Alastair joined the Residential Sales department at Rettie & Co. in March 2001, following four years of estate management on the Beaulieu Estate in Hampshire. He specialises in rural residential sales in Perthshire, Fife, Kinross-shire, Stirlingshire, Clackmannanshire and West Lothian and has worked in these markets for over 19 years. In 1998, he qualified as a chartered surveyor after graduating from the Royal Agricultural College, Cirencester with a degree in Rural Estate Management. Prior to this he studied building construction and civil engineering for three years. Alastair lives on the family farm in rural Perthshire.

    Emma honed her estate agency skills in London for six years before returning to Scotland to join the Rettie Town and Country Team in 2018. Emma is a Senior Sales Negotiator specialising in sales across East Lothian and Midlothian, whereby she happily assists clients throughout the sales process, utilising her wealth of experience and knowledge of the local market. When not studying to become an RICS Accredited surveyor, Emma can be found enjoying the countryside. Having grown up in Perthshire Emma is now happily settled in Edinburgh with her young family.

    Phoebe joined Rettie in January 2022 as Sales Negotiator in the Rural & Country Homes team, having gained over 4 years experience as a busy Sales and Lettings Agent at an agency in East Lothian. Prior to this, she worked for the ESPC in business development and marketing. Growing up on a farm at the foot of the Lammermuirs, she is passionate about the countryside and all that country life has to offer, and will be specialising in sales across East and Midlothian. Phoebe currently lives in the sleepy village of Ormiston, and spends most of her spare time looking after her horses at the farm or walking the dogs with friends.
