    There are many interesting places to explore in the area. In the Second World War Biggin Hill airfield became a Spitfire station and offensive missions flew from here. Other places of interest in the area include Down House, the home of Charles Darwin, and the place where he wrote his world-changing book 'On the origin of species', and Churchill's country home, Chartwell.
