Inside three of the quirkiest eco homes on Rightmove
Here at Rightmove we’re always on the hunt for new and quirky homes and this week we’ve stumbled across three incredible eco homes that we can’t wait to show you.
Each property has its own unique personality and this round-up might provide a little glimpse into what the homes of the future may look like…
The Outhouse
Merging discretely with meadows on a wooded hillside in the Forest of Dean, The Outhouse was previously shortlisted for the RIBA House of the Year and a RIBA Stirling prize as an eco-efficient, contemporary home.
This stunning five-bedroom property boasts an abundance of quirky and unusual features, starting with its private garden… which is on the roof. The home has an imposing concrete form and is on the market for £2.895 million.
James Klonaris, of The Modern House, said: “Despite an internal footprint of over 5,000 sq ft, the house is a stealthy and timeless architectural solution to the sloping plot, embedded within the natural insulation of the surrounding landscape. Its concrete form evokes a monolithic and unchanging quality; long, low and with one open façade to far-reaching views of the beautiful Wye valley and beyond.”
The property is listed for sale with The Modern House.
Robins Hill
Robins Hill, set in a secluded valley in an ‘area of outstanding beauty’ in South Downs National Park, is one of the most ecologically advanced homes on the market.
The four-bedroom property is built to be a near-zero carbon home, constructed using organic and breathable materials, which improve the indoor air quality, while its timber frame is encased with Hempcrete which regulates the temperature and humidity.
The house, which is beautifully integrated into a unique landscape, is also heated from six deep geothermal heat source collector pipes drilled 120 meters into the surrounding land.
Nick Ferrier, Director of Jackson-Stops Midhurst, said: “Earlier this year, Jackson-Stops research confirmed that over a fifth (22%) of UK house hunters seek energy efficiency credentials from their next home. Coupling its bold, innovative design with its spectacular setting, Robins Hill is an absolute dream for someone with a strong sense of style, seeking ecologically advanced living.”
This property is listed for sale with Jackson-Stops.
The Spiral
This magnificently modern home, a state-of-the-art eco property boasting riches of technology, was built using geo-thermal and solar energy.
The Spiral, a five-bedroom house up for sale for £2 million, showcases a number smart-tech features that are fully automated by an iPad system, including a front door that, incredibly, can be opened via the homeowner’s fingerprint.
The living space extends to more than 4000 square feet and features a spacious, five-metre high entrance hall. What’s more, the property also comes with a seated fire pit, a hot tub and a stunning water feature.
This property is listed for sale with Hamptons International.
