Inspiration Wednesday – Derby

This week’s #InspirationWednesday is Derby! Sat in Derbyshire, in the East Midlands, the city is home to the UK bases for well-known companies Rolls-Royce, Derby Litchurch Lane Works and Toyota. Sat in a lovely location, close to the Peak District, Derby is a friendly and affordable place to live.

With a busy history, Derby had a large part to play during the Industrial Revolution – with railways arriving in the 19th Century and because of its central location in the country. There are several buildings of historic interest, including the Derby Gaol, dating back to 1756, Derby Cathedral, dating back to 1723, and Pickford’s House Museum, built by Joseph Pickford in 1770.

There’s loads to do in Derby still today, with the Intu shopping centre and QUAD centre, with a gallery and cinema, or the Cathedral Quarter if you fancy a more quaint setting. You can have a turn on the Markeaton Park Light Railway or catch a game at the Pride Park Stadium. Being a university city, Derby also has a varied and vibrant nightlife and is especially known for its real ale-stocked pubs!
